I can always count on the poeple here to let me down....or Thanks a lot, fucker

You could always come up and visit sunny Cleveland Ohio. Your wife has a degree. What is it in?

mighty_maxx, what about university towns, big universities that is? They tend to have a lot of international students, maybe there would be somthing there in the way of cultural associations that could help. Heck, the University of Kansas and Kansas State University both have large international student populations.(I’m right in between them) And when I worked and lived in Lansing Michigan for three years, I remember a lot of international events. Can’t hurt to look into it.

Sorry to hear about that, ** mighty_maxx. ** I seriously hope your wife won’t have to put up with that kind of shit again. I can’t possibly imagine what your wife must be going through.

I’ve got family in Thailand, we travel there quite often… so if you ever need anything * please * drop a line.

Cheers.

I’ve been lookign into Indiana University. Its pretty large and has a significant amount of diversity. My has a degree from a Thai university in English/Business. Green_Bladder, we go and visit the in-laws in Thailand often, its a great place. If you ever catch wind of a need for CCNA or other netowrking pc job, let me know. There are plenty of IT jobs available there, but unfortunately they want someone with tons more expirence than I currrently have which is about 3 years.

Could I ask you to fight a bit of ignorance here and expand a little on the do’s and don’t’s of physical contact in the Thai culture (from the rest of your post and from context, I can tell it is a ‘bad thing’ that happened, but I’m interested to know more of the details (general ones, not details of this specific unfortunate encounter))

Well I’m not really an expert. From what I gathered from being in Thailand and from my wife. The body of a person is pretty sacred especially the head. Other personal areas come into a close second. For a complete stranger to come up and grab your ass in Thailand would be a great offense. I liken it to having your pants pulled down in front of a group of jeering teenagers. Feet are considered dirty and are not to be used for anything but walking. To point or move stuff with them is considered very rude. To hug or hold hands with your girlfriend is only allowed for serious relationships, typically. Though western and Japanese culture is creeping in through Bangkok is not quite as taboo as it once was. Let me put it this way, I didn’t get a kiss till I proposed. I hope that helps a little. If you need more, I’m sure I can get better information than that.
