No, it doesn’t work that way. I have a good friend who is an analyst for FOX. All they care about is that he’s a good talker and has a quick answer for any question. He never has to run his stuff by anyone before he goes on the air. In fact it would almost be impossible because he doesn’t know the questions until he’s on. I’ve listened to many hours of FOX military analysts since 9/11 and it’s pretty obvious that each is his own man. And they frequently disagree with each other. It’s all about presenting some original ideas in quick sound bites. That’s all they mean by “our analyst,” a guy we pay to give some ideas about something.
I guess it’s kind of like thinking of Alan Colmes as a FOX guy. Yeah, he’s paid by them, but I don’t think many of the execs are going to stand by everything he says.
Which is why their shows should fall under entertainment and not “news” as they claim.
The difference here is that this segment is brought by this guy, so they could have spend 30 seconds checking the facts instead of giving a smooth sounding idiot the mic, but that would be responsible journalism.
Well, presumably their “analysts” have some contact with the subject manner - rather tangentially sometimes, I must admit.
You’re right that his “Are they indoctrinating them into homosexuality?” question is pretty loaded, especially when there’s no one to refute it.
But speaking of one-sided: The OP’s info shop link cries about media bias:
Yet never actually brings up the fact that the man was stabbed in the stomach with a kitchen knife that Johnson just happened to be carrying around in her purse. Wouldn’t want to ugly up the self-defense thing with a gaping belly wound.
Trying to drum this up into some kind of “trend” or “growing issue” is pretty common News Media practice. Silly sensational stuff to sell more ads - not exclusive to Fox, but Fox is bleeding edge.
I don’t normally watch stupid American news shows, mostly because I only get stupid Japanese news shows. The exception is when I’m back in the States.
While all shows pimp the latest fear for ratings, it does seem that FOX panders after the “liberal” fears more than the rest of the networks put together. Unfortunately, my BIL lives off them, and every year I have to hear the latest on why America is going to hell because of the latest crisis of the week. A could of years ago it was the attack on Christmas. Now I can look forward to hearing more about the gay conspiracy.
It seems that the line between journalism and entertainment keeps getting thinner and thinner, if it hasn’t disapeared already. As can be seen in Plan B’s post, these analysts are selected because they can come up with a sound bite, not if they know what they are talking about.
I will say again that it makes a difference, or should make a difference, if there are reactionary comments on something going on, such as having an analyst comment on the press conference, and then introducing a news story, which isn’t an on-the-fly commentary. FOX elected to bring up the material in question, and should have a greater responsibility for verifying it. However, as noted above, that would require journalism, which seems to be an elusive quest at that organization.
Going off the topic of the story to comment on the Pink Pistols. Good for them! Want to be a big person and get group of your buddies to help you beat/kill one person because you don’t agree with their lifestyle? I hope that person is armed.
“Person uses gun to defend self against gay bashers” sure sounds better to me than “six people kill person because he/she was gay”.
