Nothing exciting going on here; just the usual work, work, work. However, it is my Friday, so there’s that going for me. On the other hand, I’ve got lots of work, work, work to get done in the space of a day.
Yesterday felt long, and the interviews took all day. However, there were a couple of stand out candidates, and the one candidate I wanted to do well exceeded my expectations. Today we all meet to compare our scores and discuss the candidates. We’ll see how it goes from there. That being said, even if we chose our candidate today, it could still be a couple of months before that person started just because HR is completely backed up. I hope not; I’m hoping with some prodding things will move along, but I can’t count on it.
I hope FCD’s therapy goes well, FCM.
I would love to see some good, serious rain out here, Swampy. It’s been too long and I miss it. We’ve had a shower or two here and there in the past couple of months, but really, that’s about it. We certainly haven’t had extended days of rain and we could really use some out here in the West.
Morning all. Nothing major on the agenda, I am considering going forth and buying some new pillows for the bed, just deciding if I go to WalMart or someplace pricier. Will consult the budget first. Then coaching soccer in the afternoon.
Loved the swimming dog video shoe; the puppers looked so happy.
Taters, sounds like you’ll get a good person whatever your decision.
OK, need to break my fast and be about the day. All y’allhave a good Thorsday.
Meeting was canceled - the head guy’s son just tested positive for COVID so he’s quarantined. I don’t know how old the son is but I sure hope this guy isn’t one of those anti-vax nuts.
Anyway, after I bring FCD back from therapy, I’ll just drive down to WalMart and get the stuff I need. Plus I can gas up my car. Something to do on a rainy day, right?
A nightmare woke me stupid early. I was going into my parents’ basement, armed only with a glass bottle, even though I knew there was a killer down there. Apparently the lessons of horror movies never sank in to my subconscious.
Today I hope to hear back from the thrift shop about the furniture. Maintenance is also supposed to be coming to change 3 lightbulbs. It’d be nice if they got here before I have to empty the china cabinet, as I’ll look like a hoarder with its contents spread all over. Oh, and I have to empty the very full bar cart, which has no wheels, because it’s also on the area rug I’m donating. See what happens when you people don’t come over and drink up all my alcohol?
Huh. I learned something new today! (Can you learn something old?) I assume it’s because of their shape? Or their cute little flat faces? Come to think of it, I’ve never seen a dachshund swim, so maybe it’s not the face shape.
Taters, hope the selection process goes well.
MetalMouse, hope you find some comfy pillows that don’t break the budget.
It is gorgeous in MO today. About mid-60s. I should be out ambulating, but I’m inside working instead. Oh, well - if I’m lucky, I’ll still have a light meeting day and be able to do it later.
I had no idea that pugs don’t float - I’ve also learned something new!
In other news, I’ve been drawn into buying a book after watching an Amazon Prime trailer - anybody else read Wheel of Time? So far so good. I’m glad to have something long to read. I’m trying hard not to fall into a rabbit hole on my phone via reddit, and so far that and my knitting are helping me avoid it. Now my primary rabbit hole is the Dope.
Schedule for the next few days looks a bit stupid busy - do you ever plan things then wonder why you thought that was a good idea? I’ve been having one of those moments all week! But…next week will be better and less silly. Or so’s the hope.
Although not really happy. It’s raining.
Don’t know of the plunge will be cancelled or not.
I was surprised that there were four of us at the park this morning.
Got my forms dropped off at FedEx. I grabbed an extra envelope and stuff just in case I have to do it again.
Very annoyed with new mortgage company. My old mortgage was supposed to be paid off by the 7th. Current mortgage company is calling me about my payment. That is stressing me out and pissing me off.
Something is wrong with my truck, I guess the audio system or whatever they call it. The screen is green with pink lines running through it and I can’t do anything. I can’t change the station, can’t make calls, can’t connect to blue tooth, no backup camera, can’t adjust the volume, and can’t even turn the radio off even though that is a button to push.
I don’t know if it is because water got under the hood, or just a glitch. I looked it up online and found a few posts where people said it happened to them and it fixed itself. I don’t think it’s the water because it worked all morning until after I dropped the forms off.
It happened once before where the backup camera didn’t turn off. It is distracting AF to be driving down the road and the screen is showing what is behind you the whole time.
But every day is something new it seems.
That is one nice pool in the video. I wish we had something like that.
Looks like a lot of fun.
Talky, I plan things all the time and then think wtf did I do that?
It seemed like a good idea at the time, but now it means I have to get dressed in real clothes, and I have to get in the truck and drive somewhere and damn, what was I thinking?
It rained this morning, for some value of rain. At least 10 drops hit my car, and now it looks even dirtier. The drops just moved the dust and ash around a bit.
I’m feeling beat today. Hopefully the coffee will help.
So yesterday the Midnight shift ran long and we started late, with predictable chaos. Today we started at 3:15, as early as we could start(the last outgoing Virginia Beach package was 10 feet ahead of our first bag o’ envelopes). Still not enough. They were still processing packages at 9:15, and when the package cars left at 9:30(30-45min late), there were 3 car loads of stuff left behind. And a thunderstorm came through just as I got home, and we have a Flash Flood warning. And I lost my house key, necessitating beating on the door, to rile up the terrier, to annoy the roommate awake. It must be Thursday, I cound never get the hang of Thursdays… - Arthur Dent
I think it’s because they’re compact, muscular dogs and they displace more than they can keep afloat. Cozmo (daughter’s dog) may also have some bulldog somewhere in his bloodline because he’s big for a pug - not fat, but taller and broader than one usually expects a pug to be.
And, actually, they can swim, sorta, but their snouts makes breathing hard and as a breed, they don’t like it. If you want to take your pug swimming (WHY??? WHY???), it is recommended that they wear a life jacket. But they’re not water dogs. They’re lap dogs - as in sitting on laps, not swimming laps!
The physical therapist kicked FCD’s butt today - she doubled what she did to… er… with him last time, plus gave him 10 minutes on the bike. And his session was when he was supposed to be taking pain meds, so he got them about an hour later. He’s vegging for the moment. I finished my leftover shrimp and broccoli from last night and I’m about to head to the Mart of Wal. I may get him some ice cream for being a good little patient.
One of pups’ friends couldn’t swim, sank like a rock, so she got a doggie life preserver.
She’s a lab. Chocolate.
Go figure.
My two can swim, they just don’t want to.
Shar Pei are supposed to hate water, but there are plenty of videos out there of them not only swimming, but having fun with it.
It’s stopped raining, but it’s still dark and cloudy out.
The lawn guy just stopped by and took away all the crap out back. My son will be happy that he doesn’t have to do it.
Some years back, we had a terrier mix who preferred riding around on an inflatable raft. He could swim, but he was too chill for that!
Back, safe and sound. Rain has stopped here, also, and the sun is trying to break thru.
I was amazed how empty many of the shelves in WalMart were. Like they were out of large eggs. I didn’t need any - I just noticed when I walked by. Weird. I got what I went for, plus a bit more. Now it’s time for chillage.
Our Big Dig sewage adventure is complete. Now we get to go after the city for their malfeasance in all of this. I’m not holding my breath, but I believe that they are liable for at least some of the cost of these repairs. And we may not be done even yet, as there are still some less severe problems further down the line that we can’t afford to take care of at this point.
nellie, a lot of municipalities do a pup swim before draining public pools for the winter. It’s a fun way to raise funds for the animal shelter or dog park.
Mooooooooom, I buy the Aldi dental sticks for Nelson and he likes them better than greenies. Also, basset hounds aren’t well known for being swimmers. My dog Fred was another who would sink to the bottom when he went into the river or lake (he was smart enough to avoid intentional plunges).
Howdy Y’all! I did the church janitor Junior Warden things this mornin’ then worked on my sloth skills the rest of the day. Seriously. OYKW cooked sup and then said he would clean up afterwards. Who am I to deprive him of all that! OK, the beastloaf was one that I had made up a couple of weeks ago, so I did my part. That’s my story and I’m stickin’ to it!
Hope everyone has had a good or at least non-sucky day!
For background, we have a speaker so everyone can hear the drive-thru orders, which helps expedite things.
It was just me & one guy up front - I was running 2 registers at once (inside orders and drive-thru) and he was doing … well, everything else. (Everyone else was in back, probably dicking around on their damn phones.) This guy is awesome, though, and we’ll call him Dylan, cuz that’s his name.
Anyway, someone drove up to the speaker and placed an order with me. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Dylan nod his head in acknowledgement, and move to start the order while I got their payment.
One of my less-useful cow-orkers finally wandered up, but I said, “We got this.” Looked at Dylan, and remarked, "I saw you hear them."
Then we both looked at each other for a moment.
I was like, yes, that made perfect sense … but it sounded so damn weird said aloud. To see someone hear something … I dunno.
Well, there’s a brief moment in the exciting world of food service work. Now I need to quit dicking around on my phone, and get some shit done around the house.
Cinnamon can swim, he just doesn’t like to. When its wicked hot I’ll take him down to the nearby swimmin’ hole, the brook that eventually becomes a huge waterfall but has some really nice calm pools up above. He’ll splash around and eventually lie down in the water. He does swim. A few years ago we went on vacay to a cottage on the Maine coast, and he insisted on getting to the toy tossed into the ocean before his doggie buddy. But he usually dropped the toy on the shore and let her (much older pup at the time) bring the toy back to the thrower.
He’s a nice dude to dogs he knows, all other dogs are public enemy #1. Also he doesn’t like, from looking out of the truck, people with umbrellas, luggage, or children in walkers. I think that’s mostly cuz he doesn’t see so well anymore.
shoe I know the “I saw you hear that” look. It usually ends up with some laughs afterwards.
Aldi has dental stix? I gotta do a search, cuz the old man likes 'em.
Never heard back from thrift store guy re: furniture. I’ll email him tomorrow to tell him (truthfully) that I have volunteers to haul my furniture to a charity thrift if he doesn’t want to get it pronto.
Eye doc’s office says trial contact lens didn’t arrive, so tomorrow’s appt. got postponed indefinitely. I can be patient, but it’s work.
Maintenance replaced dead bulbs. Yesterday manager told me all the move-outs were due to military reassignments, not big rent increase. Maintenance guy said nope, they’re mostly due to big rent increase.
I walked to the store and back, 2 miles. Wimpy, but I’m too sleep-deprived to do more.
shoe, there was a popular poet in the 1960s named Rod McKuen (“the Kerouac of Kitsch”–he was AWFUL) who wrote a book of poems entitled Listen to the Warm. Seeing someone hear something makes more sense.
VanGo, Cinnamon sounds like a good boy. And splashing around in the water counts as water aerobics.
A week from now I’ll be in NYC! Woo hoo! I’ll still have marks/scars from the giant mosquito bites on my arms (which just stopped itching today)…I’m gonna look like a chicken pox or measles patient or something. My only hope is a cold snap that lets me wear long sleeves.
Work has been pretty much non-stop, but at least my direct report is back now so it’s just the normal amount of non-stop. She was supposed to be back on Tuesday, but her mom had a mini-stroke (!) so she didn’t come back until yesterday (her mom’s ok). Monday’s day off feels like weeks ago; I’m so glad tomorrow is Friday.
I am trying very hard to be patient with the nurse practitioner from my bariatric center: I sent her my new (fabulous) test results a week ago, and two days ago I followed up with another message asking her to please confim getting the new results and let me know whether the insurance approval request has been submitted, and one other question. No response to either message yet. I am not good at feeling like I don’t know what’s going on; I would think she’d understand that I’m kind of anxious about this next step!
In other news, I’m looking forward to a music-filled weekend: Saturday night I’m going to a great Capitol Hill venue to hear some of my favorite local jazz musicians, and on Sunday afternoon I get to go back to a vocal workshop that I did regularly for 10+ years before the pandemic started. This weekend is the “reopening.” There will be 6 singers plus the instructor/pianist (who will be in Saturday night’s band). We’re all bringing our own microphones, and have submitted proof of being fully vaccinated. I haven’t sung in the same room as other people (or with live accompaniment) in 18 months…I may get a little emotional.
