I can't believe this wasn't posted yet....... Ms. Bush.

Back in my hippie days, I knew a woman who had taken just a few too many hits of LSD. Every time I see a picture of Laura Bush, I’m reminded of that poor hippie girl who just never seemed completely aware of her surroundings. I always had the feeling that she was watching a movie no one else could see.

Well, her husband got booed at the Pope’s funeral.

Maybe they figured it was her turn.

I think the salient point of this particular visit is the one GaWd made. Namely, that members of this Administration are almost universally reviled abroad. Not that they fare much better with close to half of the American electorate either.

To be fair, it must also be said that’s they’ve worked very hard to elicit said feelings from us. In addition to that, mottos such as “a uniter, not a divider” followed by “with us or against us,” are pure comedy gold.

Yours,

~A Compassionate Conservative.

She didn’t *not * do it, right?

Jenna. They must be at least in a “Girls Gone Wild” video by now, they must be.

Jenna, Jabba, Jedi, Jasmine…whatever.

LouisB -yes, to me she always seems a half beat behind. Like she has to process whatever is asked of her thru any number of filters…public figures do this all the time, but with LB, I can see the wheels turning.

Perhaps. But then again, by sending his wife he’s sending a message as to just how personaly he’s taking this issue. He could’ve sent any envoy, but he sent the woman to whom he’s pledged his life. To me, that’s a big thing.

Maybe it’s because I was raised in a post-feminism setting, or because I did bussiness over the phone with many people for a while, but I’ve adopted the use of Ms/Mr when refering to women and men, respectively. Besides, I can’t ever seem to keep straight the difference between miss and mrs. And, as, of course, I don’t see why someone should have their marital status preceeding their own name. We don’t do that to men, they’re always just ‘mr’ (unless they’re dr.) , so why not afford women the same privelage?

Listen…I couldn’t be troubled to read all the way through this thread so could someone PLEASE tell me why Bushco sent Laura to Egypt to teach lesbian girls how to strip? I thought Muslims didn’t go in for that kind of thing.

I’m wondering if sending anyone was a good idea.

Not even the lesbian strippers? Jeeeez… I didn’t know you were such a damn radical World Eater!

But yes, I can pretty much agree with that, as it’s a thought I’ve been having while reading about this whole mess. It might very well have been best to keep our fingers out of the hornet’s nest. But it’s also hard for me to accept that we should simply abandon all of our efforts at diplomacy with certain Muslim populations. It’s a catch 22 as I see it…

Oh, and, GaWd you raise a good point. I hadn’t heard about that in any of the news articles I’d read. I think that angle would’ve yielded a perfectly valid pitting which I would’ve agreed with, nothing about Ms Bush being ‘arrogant’ for daring to act like she was an equal to men.

Sweet Christ I forgot about them!

:smack:

Man, they’re the best part of this thread!

Indeed it is. Man she must have been crapping herself.

Thank you Bear_Nenno for expressing what I was thinking.

Man, do any of you people see things in anything other then black and white? Perhaps under the current circumstances it wasn’t the best time to attempt to build relations, considering many people think it will only inflame them further. Other the other hand we need to extend the olive brance as much as possible, so maybe it was overall a good idea. Sheesh, stop biting our heads off!

I like Laura Bush! Her hair moves even less than Tippi Hedren’s did when she was crossing Bodega Bay in that boat! Muslim women need to see that this is possible if they’re ever to overcome the Veil of Attrition!

::swoons::

Possibly slightly OT, but I watched the news reports of Laura being booed and heckled. The one aspect that stuck in my mind had nothing to do with whether it was appropriate for her to be there or not. What I noticed most was her completely frozen, pasted-on smile the entire time she was being hustled back to the caravan. It looked as if she was really frightened and trying not to show it, extremely pissed off because these “people” were shouting at her, or she was busy composing the ass-chewing she was going to give Dubya as soon as she got to a phone. If I was trying to read her thoughts from her expressioin I would have guessed either “I am so glad all these people are going to Hell for believing in the wrong religion.” or “If that cameraman pans down to show where I pissed myself, I will personally choke the living shit out of Rupert Murdoch. Good thing I wore black.”

As to whether she should have been sent on this goodwill trip, I don;t see that it gained them any political capital, but I could be mistaken.

Did the article change? I can’t see anything about her visit to the Dome of the Rock in it. Was she actually allowed inside?

I think those fuck tards protesting for Jonathan Pollard’s release are even worse than the Muslims. To my mind, the Muslims have some sort of legimate beef but WHAT THE FUCK is Israel doing letting protesters heckle a First Lady about a spy who gave them nuclear secrets and then promptly gave those secrets to Russia for higher immigration quotas? Now I dislike Bush with the best of them but doesn’t this strike you as funny?

I thought Israel wanted the whole episode to go away?

FYI, the MSN article I read detailed her travels to the wall, where a protest broke out, and to the mosque, and to the dome. After each incident of people protesting, or treating her disdainfully, she said the same fucking thing. “The whole region is obviously very emotional” or some watered-down bullshit.

Truth is, Mrs. President, the people hate you and your husband. It’s not because “emotions are running high”, they just want the infidels who started the shit in the ME out of it.

Sam

While I won’t disagree that we have a hand in the current shit taking place, the US hardly started shit there. From what I recall of history in that region, prior to 1947 the Brits were the power brokers.

Personally, I’d like to agree wholeheartedly. Pull out all troops, end all aid to the region, and let them deal with one another, absent our moderation. Were we to do that, we’d still be bastards, but that’s how it is.
