I can't help it..

In this thread: http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=130386

Scylla entered these words:

“Frizzy hair, never went to college, single parent, waitress or menial worker, unintelligent…”

Why, why in the name of the deity of your choice would you lump these terms together?

Yeah, I’m a single mother who is most definitely over-reacting, but I can’t help it. It makes me so mad when people look at your marital/parental status and then throw you into a box with a buncha losers.

And the thing is, every single parent I know is a productive, intelligent, and responsible adult.

thx

Ouisey

Hmmm. Agreed, poor choice of words there.

In general, Scylla’s not a bad egg, though. He’s one of the most pleasant cynical conservative bastards on these boards.

Still, does this need a new thread?

Probably not.

I agree with your opinion of Scylla. I enjoy reading his posts.

I just got irked for a moment. I feel better now, thx.

Ouisey

Well, Scylla’s way of describing the woman was debated at length in the original thread. I personally think he was using it as an illustration of the point of his story…she judged him by his appearance, so did he. I was never bothered by it, and am not interested in arguing it here, but I did find this interesting…

So, ouisey you are naturally defensive of single mothers, but have no qualms about people with frizzy hair, people who never went to college, and waitresses being characterized as “losers”? Hmmmmm?

Speaking as someone encumbered by the social stigma of frizzy hair, I am highly offended.

There, I’m over it.

I think that anyone with frizzy hair is unintelligent.

Hmmmmm. Maybe I’ll just stay out of this and hope it goes away by itself.

I’m sorry if you feel that you partially identified with characteristics of this person that gave me that impression, and are troubled by it.

I put it down that way, because it troubled me, too. So, I guess I was looking to be judged.

Oh, and thanks, Coldie!

why won’t my 1.8A overclock at more than 2.5Ghz without failing the prime95 tests? why god why?
I’ve upped the Vcore voltages, lowered the memory timings, locked the pci and agp buses to 66/33 Mhz. WHAT ELSE DO YOU WANT ME TO DO? Please tell me I won’t get stuck with this slow 2500Mhz cpu…
