I Can't See MSNBC Anymore: What Did I Accidentally Do Wrong?

I like to log into MSNBC occasionally for breaking news, or to read other parts of that site.

However, for the past few days, MSNBC (and ONLY that site) shows up as a blank, white page even though the bottom part of my screen says, “done”. Even when I hit refresh, it still comes up blank but the bottom of the screen shows “done” again.

I generally use Firefox, but I have the same problem of the blank MSNBC page when I switch over to IE.

Did I accidentally block it or something? I am sure I did something stupid, but never having done it before, I don’t know how to undo my stupidity.

Help me get my MSNBC back! Thanks.

Can you view/source from the browser menu and see the page source code?

Yep, and it too is totally blank.

I even went to MSN…worked fine…and then used one of their links to MSNBC and again, nothing. Blank white screen…and only for this one site! Driving me crazy to figure out how I screwed this page up…

I was going to suggest clearing your browser cache, but if it’s happening on two browsers that seems unlikely to be the solution. Couldn’t hurt to try, though, I suppose.

Save the page as a local file and then check to see how many KB it is. I’m trying to get a sense of whether or not you are even pulling the content from the web server.

Navigate to the PICSRules folder in the registry to see if some content restriction got put there somehow:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\Ratings

Try loading the page in another site which “translates” web sites into their own goofy versions and re-displays the content within their own site, such as Pornolizer. (Caution: Pornolizer is hilarious but possibly NSFW)

Breaking News: DMark’s MSNBC Is Now Miraculously Working Again After Four Days!
I have no idea how that glitch happened, but in any case - I can see MSNBC again.

Crap…MSNBC is gone AGAIN today.

I just don’t know…maybe they just hate me and don’t want me to read their site anymore. I swear, it is just this ONE site - I can log on to any other site with no problem.

I think I will do some Googling today to see what might be the cause of this mystery.

Yes, pornolize actually worked, sorta…didn’t give me the front page, but I was able to navigate to (a very funny porno version of) the politics page.**
