Hi Everybody! We had our first warm day today (81ºF) - I just got up to close windows and put the air on… and discovered that my poor widdle Siberian kitten has gulp he’s MELTED!
My poor widdle kitty… born and bred for the cold, freezing Russian north of Siberia… I guess I should have been keeping him stored on ice!
Look at this poor, melted thing. I hope the cool air will restore him to cat-shape once more… but it could be that he’ll just solidify into a fuzzy puddle.
Long week in Baltimore though honestly after Monday it wasn’t dangerous, just busy. I spent most of my time in the heart of the activity at Pennsylvania & North and met lots of interesting people who were fun to talk with. Long, long hours.
All politics aside, yesterday’s announcement caused the area to become festival-like with no signs of aggression, though I tend to believe the prosecutor was just kicking the can down the road. I doubt ALL the charges they filed will stick once all the legal stuff is done, and people will be angry again. How angry? Hard to tell.
Today ran down to my parents for a brief visit - dad needed a garden rototilled so I did that and a few other chores. At their age now I am stepping up the visits to every other week for the foreseeable future.
Have to work tomorrow for extended coverage in Baltimore again. I was hoping we would scale back but no dice.
I went to Montreal’s first Porchfest today! It’s an event where there are different bands/musicians playing music on their porches around town. Each concert is 1 hour long, and there are some at different times, so you can catch more than one concert. I had a great time!
From what I understand (and I don’t claim to understand all) it seems the prosecutor laid on a bunch of charges to make the population happy knowing full well that they will not result in convictions. Thus for the moment the crowds are happy and celebrating, and perhaps in a few months or a year when most of the charges are dropped or the court acquits the defendants than the city will be better prepared for the outrage, or the population more apathetic.
Listening to folks in West Baltimore you would think the cops were already going to jail. Far from it.
However I have to say it’s not a bad plan. It buys a bunch of time (which can be used to diffuse the anger) and give authorities time to prepare for the inevitable backlash that will occur when people learn they will not get what they want.
When the doctor told me I would have to carry nitro on me the rest of my life, no problem.
When another doctor told me my knee would never be 100% right and pain-free again, I had no issue.
When the eye doctor told me I had no choice anymore I had to have bifocals, I was crushed. The one thing I honestly related to old age had finally come to pass. That was more years ago than I like to admit but the pain is still there.
Went to the amusement park after the memorial as I planned. Our brains weren’t quite into it as much as most times but ONCE THE RIOT BROKE OUT ------------
Not only is my brain fully engaged again but I should have no constipation issues the rest of the weekend.
This was no serious Baltimore affair, just kids being the assholes kids can always be. But when multiple tight packs of 30-50 teens start quickly running places, folks my age know to find solid walls to put our backs against and corners to hide in out of the way.
No craziness is fun, especially when you realize that not only will the authorities not come to your rescue, but it’s also unlikely the perpetrators will be caught in the end.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 52 Amurrkin out with a predicted high of 82 for the day and sunny. A nice day for a softball game I suppose. However, we shall perform a disappearin’ act as soon after brunch as possible. No desire for softball for either one of us.
Ok, that’s it for now. I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Purtification for deheathenization must also commence at some point but not for a while.
It’s gonna be sunny and in the high 70s today.
That is a good thing.
I have to head out for the armpit tonight because of pre-op testing tomorrow.
Unless there are riots. Then I’m not going downtown.
I know what you mean Ruble, it’s how I felt giving in to the need for glasses. I’m also dreading the day when I have enough grey that I have to decide to dye or not to dye.
Ah, dried out poke chops. Just like MamaCat used to make.
So what you’re saying is you were the first against the wall when the revolution came?
It’s supposed to finally warm up today. I’m going on a trillium hunt up by Craven Gap. If I don’t come back, avenge my death. After that I’m going to look up pictures of fancy hats from the Kentucky Derby.
Glasses are no biggie to me. I’ve been wearing trifocals since I was 45. I can see - that’s all that matters.
Hey, BBBobbio, there’s a steakhouse planned for downtown Leonardtown. The former Corner Critters pet store is going to be a steak house downstairs and luxury apartments upstairs. Because living over a steakhouse is the ultimate luxury…
We’ve breakfasted. Shortly, I will change into grubbies and go outside for a while. Good times.
2gig, when the maters come off, you’ll reap the rewards of being a good son.
Emily, what kind of porch music will there be? My family used to sit out on our wrap around front porch with a couple of guitars, an accordion and whatever else was handy to play and sing on a regular basis. Sometimes the neighbors would drop by to listen or even join in.
I’m fixing to vacuum, then either go out for a hike or play in the studio until time to fix lunch (salmon patties, green beans with bacon, mustard greens, fried sweet N.O.T.s and cornbread).
The odd thing is seeing and reading the reports and thinking “What planet are these idiots from”? The park wants to downplay it to “it was just kids running around” and the media wants to elevate it to “chaos abounded”. The truth is closer to the first than the second. A lot of folks were getting knocked around but it wasn’t from fists swinging so much as these kids were in packs so tight that a professional scrum-half would have been proud. We’re talking a basic mosh pit moving at a really fast jog. Get in the way of that and its going to be a not good day to be you.
I may have seen something that started it all. These two kids were throwing some punches; a girl and a boy. And the girl was basically kicking his ass. She was in full MMA stance and clearly knew what she was doing. A couple other kids had their cell phones out and were filming it. It was about an hour after that that the real influx of kids started and things began to get hinky. Park security knew something was up but the kids were able to move around faster than security could respond. So opening day ended with the park closing early and things overflowing to the parking lot and a couple fast food joints – where basically nothing was safe and no one could get much control.
People are suggesting they follow the local mall and not let kids in without a parent. Yeah - like they are going to give up the income. Most of the people we see in the park (say 85%) are 18 or under. The park issues season passes which basically makes them summer day care for the community. Take that away and I don’t know if the place would show a profit.
All I can say is its going to be an interesting summer for them and I’m almost curious to see how it plays out.
