Sorry to post, but this question has been weighing on my mind for a while…
Every so often, In a movie trailer, I heard a short piece of music, sung by a choir, that goes something like: "dum…DAH…dum…DAH…dum DAH DAH DAH DAH dum DAH DAH DAH DAH dum DAH dum DAH dum DAH DAH DAH DAH dum DAH DAH DAH DAH-"etc. (Please forgive my use of technical terminology) All I know about this “song” is that it’s not from “Conan the barbarian”, and it’s not from “Plunkett & Macleane” (At least, it’s not from the “Hanging Scene” in Plunkett & Macleane)…Can anyone help me out with identifying this music? If it’s any help, I think one of the trailers included on the video release of the “X-Men” movie included this music.
Thanks in advance,
Ranchoth
That’s more like DAH DAH DAH DAH, DAH DAH DAH DAH, DAH DAH dum DAH dum DAH DAH. (Not to be confused with Trio’s “Da Da Da”, which goes DAH DAH DAH, DAH DAH DAH…)
Ranchoth, is the choir singing vocalizations (literally something like “dah dah dah”) or is it actual words? Your description does sounds a little familiar.
Was it also used in the trailers for “Shining Through” and “A Few Good Men?” (I think maybe "Clear and Present Danger as well.) I notice that’s used quite a bit. Real “string heavy.”
Oh, duh…I didn’t see your bit about the choir. Well the music I’M thinking of can be heard in the last third of the “Few Good Men” trailer here: http://us.imdb.com/Trailers?0104257&3797&56
Any idea what THAT is? They use it for everything.
Without more information I would have to agree with O Fortuna from Carmina Burana. That piece was used extensively in Excalibur, especially in the final battle scene where King Arthur and his followers charge full steam into the enemy.
Listen to the Romeo + Juliet score … not the soundtrack, with Garbage and the Butthole Surfers and the rest, but the score, which is a separate CD. I’m pretty sure that piece is on there. I can’t tell you where or what it’s called, because I don’t have the liner notes.
Oh, and it’s not O Fortuna. That has been used far less recently than it was for a while. I think the OP is talking about a similarly styled piece, however.

You’re right. I’ve listened to Carmina Burana a few times, and the mystery music is definately not there.
is it the song used in this trailer for “Of Gods and Men”? and i mean the song im talking about starts at 1:05 of the trailer. very important. its not the song at the beginning, its the song in the middle.
I REALLY want to know what this song is called. does anyone know it’s name???
Hard for my tin ear to tell if it fits the pattern, but one really common piece I hear a lot in trailers is “Charging Fort Wagner” from the Glory soundtrack. Have a listen. The bit I’m thinking of starts about 30 seconds in.
Edit: And I just realized I replied to a zombie. Ergh.
Believe it or not, after several years (and a reminder zombie), I actually managed to find a clip of the music I was looking for, completely by accident: here it is, as used in “20th Century Battlefields.”
Well, I can hardly believe this myself, but my phone told me it’s actually made by Iron Maiden, so there you go. No wonder you couldn’t find it, it’s certainly the last place I would look. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SXgoozpR5HE
Hmmm…maybe not; that classical bit doesn’t seem to be on the album version of that song. They may have just plugged in stock music just for the stage show.
Oh, alright. I did some more research for you (Although I’ll have to charge double since tonight is Walpurgis.) and apparently it’s the intro to the composition Declamation by Chris Payne. Iron Maiden seems to have done the only recording of it however, so that’s why I thought that was where it was from. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yXImZdrrm-I
