I despise winged collars

In black tie for men, those collars with the little ‘wings’, where you can see the entire length of the bow tie. Shudder. Makes the wearer look like a 14 year old boy at his first ‘posh’ event.

Truly awful when combined with a fake bow tie.

Hey - they’re great for going to court - how else would I wear my tabs?

I don’t mind it at all if you’re in a full dress tux (tailcoat) with the pique vest and tie. Like this photo or if you’re wearing a morning coat and an ascot.

I’m not fond of colored bow-ties in general actually. With a winged collar they make me look like I’m 12 again.

They look especially silly without the tailfeathers.

The piddly little ready-attached wings on your typical rental tux shirt generally do look like something a high school boy would wear to prom. But if the v is deep enough and the wings just about as wide as the bowtie - the classic detachable stiff collar style - the whole effect is elegant as hell.

I always wanted to wear one of those, but I go to black tie so seldom that I don’t buy special shirts.

I wear black tie quite often, since that’s what choir dress is when we perform. I don’t mind the winged collars at all.
