I do find one foot of snow in less than 24 hours a tad excessive.

They’ve been hogging a high pressure for months now, the bastards!

Saskatchewan’s Cold Weather Records Falling

The positive is that it was warm enough today for the Piper Cub and me to go out in the evening, armed with a chipper and a hoe, and chip great chunks of rotting ice off the sidewalk and out of the gutters, to improve drainage. There’s something very satisfying about breaking up the ice, especially when you get a good sized chunk coming away in one go. Then we’d toss it out into the street, for maximum melting tomorrow. Melt, you bastard ice!

Good clean father-son fun; just that we’re normally doing it in early March, not late April.

We finally had another spring-like day here today; I was able to get into my front yard and finish up one of the beds there (I had to move the rock border off, remove the sod, and put the rock border back).

And our grass is all of a sudden almost in need of a haircut. When the hell did that happen?

Not sure. When our recent snow melted, I was surprised to see green tulip shoots poking up from the ground.

♪ Spring in the Prairies, Comes like a Surprise! ♫

Just finished up a very nice morning of skiing. I love the feeling of gliding along.

Well, as I just said in the CanaDoper thread, it’s 20 degrees, and I’m putting on shorts and going to hit a bucket of balls.

Happy days are here again.

But not that other type of foursome – taking off shorts and hitting a bucket of balls.

Another Saskatchewanian who is happy to finally see some melting. Still have 6 feet of snow in the backyard in areas, and a uniform snow blanket of 3-4 feet deep throughout. The backyard doesn’t get much sun.

Beautiful Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada!

We’ve been having a hard winter.

Normally, this is what the Legislature, overlooking Wascana Lake, looks like at this time of year.

This is what it looked like yesterday.

But all is well. We’ve had two days of plus Celsius weather, and cheery smiles are returning to the faces of Reginans.

Wouldn’t you guys be much happier if you were into Fahrenheit? It’d be 50 degrees out instead of 10. Or 68 instead of 20.

Lots warmer.

Remember that in order to convert from metric, you need to double it and add 30. So a metric 6-pack is 2 * 6 + 30 = 42 liters of beer. So count me in for the metric system!

But saying “someone has a room-temperature IQ” is so much more insulting in Celsius!

Only the dim bulb wouldn’t comprehend the insult, and would then accuse you of being a socialist.

Well, we got a week of temps in the 70’ and even 80’s (81 today) and now we’re under a Winter Storm Watch. 5 to 10 inches Wednesday and that is after the first couple of inches melt on hitting the warm ground.

It…just…won’t…stop.

Snow.

Game: Guess when the Piper yard will be snow-free!

96 degrees. Hot, sweaty, AC on. I’m tired of living in the desert.

I’m sitting in an outdoor cafe on Queen Street East here in Toronto, in the warm sunshine, waiting to go to an appointment. It’s beautiful out. Short grass is green, though scrubby overgrown areas still haven’t really woken up yet. I even saw flowers in the park near the subway station. I’m watching the passing traffic while posting to the SDMB. The weather forecast is highs between 15 and 20, lows between 8 and 11, and mostly sunny for the next week and a half. Spring! Is! Here!

I was going to bitch about the 0ºC temps today, but then I saw the picture of your front yard, Piper and saw Lamar’s post about another Storm Watch. I’ll just put another layer on and go dig in my yard.
