I donated to the Ukraine

I’m not rich.
I only felt I could manage $250 because of my heath & home repair needs.
But I gave.
I sent a physical check to the Ukrainian Embassy in Washington DC.

Anybody else give?

Bosda, did you retire at the new year, as you planned?

Related topic: I did a search on Amazon.ca for “Ukraine flag”. It appears to be a very popular search, and there are tons of them, both large flags and car flags. There’s even a large combined Canadian+Ukraine flag. I’m ordering a pair of car flags. As for donations, the Canadian government has donated hundreds of millions of dollars as well as weapons systems, and I hope I can raise awareness to donate more.

No.
I really won’t be able to until March 2023.
Damn, that last year of early retirement takes a big bite out of the pension!

I sent $50 to Doctors Without Borders. I felt that was the best way I could help.

We have Quarantine Zone for COVID; what do the mods think about creating a new forum for the conflict?

We’re discussing it. For now we have the special tag.

There is also a thread on it in ATMB. That would be the place to discuss it.

You should try this year to live on your anticipated pension amount, so you can see how doable it is, and maybe sock away more savings.

Yes I donated. My employer has a matching funds program for Ukraine, with some humanitarian orgs listed and I donated through that to double the donation. This giving fund earmarked for Ukraine has been active since 2014, so wasn’t put together just for this.

But honestly I feel so worried right now. And also guilty that I’m still relatively safe and far away from these events that seem to be worsening by the hour.

I donated to the Canadian Red Cross fund for Ukraine.

I donated a bit to UNICEF. They send a SMS asking for a donation.

Over here there’s a co-ordinating committee of charities that put out a combined appeal in major emergencies like this. It launched on Thursday, with government match funding up to £20m promised: apparently they raised over £50m in the first 24 hours, though my contribution was just a drop in the ocean.
