My husband’s colleague - the guy who spent the night with Tony at the hospital so that my mother-in-law and I could rest, the guy who delivered groceries and dog food to the house for the teenager and toddler and dogs while I was tied up at the trauma center, the guy who showed up with a truck when we were moving, and with a lawn mower when mine broke at the end of summer last year - is having kidney transplant surgery this morning. After-market parts couldn’t happen to a nicer guy. I’m so very grateful to the stranger who is donating a whole freaking kidney to my friend. The world is a better place for the continued presence of both of these men.
This is the total stranger who is giving my friend a whole freakin’ kidney! Sarge has a son and daughter, both too young to drive. Mr. Hanson is giving them the chance to grow up with a father. How cool is that?!

Surgery went great for everyone - both donor and recipient are back at home and doing great. The donor is my aunt’s next-door neighbor, so my cousins are keeping a check on him and his family to make me happy. (And also because they’re really nice people, as one might infer from actions like donating a body part to a total stranger.)
I’m just over the moon to see the Sarge looking so healthy and happy!
