Supper was chickie nuggets and 'maters. Not great, but it filled a void, so there’s that. I don’t have brownies, but there are some Oreos in the pantry for later.
Roxy was laughing up a storm this afternoon. I put her down on the floor and the dogs were walking past her, and she giggled like crazy! Daughter tried to catch her on video - I don’t know how well it worked. Slowly but surely, she’s developing her personality! And, of course, she’s gorgeous!
Each.
Pretty much a nothing day, the contractor said they would be dropping off a dumpster and some of the work materials today, but nothing showed up. I’ll wait until noon tomorrow before I contact him. Took pictures of the bare kitchen and bathroom so I can post ‘before’ and ‘after’ photos.
Other than that pretty much a do-nothing day. Going out to water the lawn now.
Sari, so Ripple is getting “THAT” operation, huh? Be interesting to see if it affects his behavior any.
Bumba, that looks a lot like the pillows they sell for long-distance air travel; I wonder is some bright guy/gal who travels a lot and has dogs put two and two together…
Mac and Cheese will be nuked later this evening. Still trying to clean out the refrigerator before it gets moved out.
metal mouse, you can buy commemorative bottles at the JD plant. Better yet, a Mumpfest down the road at the George Dickel distillery where they have a tasting room.
sari, until he got big enough for me to do one paw at a time, I took Nelson to the groomer to get his nails done. They have a neat little sling thing that essentially hangs him up so he can’t escape and are done in five minutes. I still take him in every few months for a spa day, as they do a better job of cleaning his ears than I do.
I got everything squared away with the new apartment manager this afternoon. I also inquired if the complex maintenance guy did freelance work. If so, I’ll have him make the repair to the carpet, since he’ll have scraps of the same carpet from putting new into other units. If he does a good job and cuts a good deal, I’ll have him hang the new blinds, put a shelf up in the laundry room (I want one over the washer/dryer with a bar to hang clothes) and replace a lightbulb that I can’t reach from my kitchen stool. Stuff a middle aged fat woman has no business getting on a ladder for.
I got hungry at 2pm so I had 4 fried chicken tenders. Blurf, my stomach hurts. Rode Miss A to take away some of the bloat. It’s 7pm and I’m not hungry, so no supper.
Part 1: Getting to Seattle
About as I was passing Bumba’s house, the Suburban’s started making a noise. The sort of noise that makes a person think that another several hours of driving is not really in the cards. A noise like the engine’s revving up and then slowing down without me doing anything different - grrrrr-er-grrrrr-er - accompanied by a pulsing, jerking motion. By coincidence, we were about to pass the dealership where I had arranged to by a 2017 Ford Expedition when we got back from our trip. We stopped and bought it right then. Voilà, we made it to Seattle.
Part 2: Cruising to Alaska
The first day was at sea. I loved it. The water was a little rough, but not too bad. My daughter and niece got seasick, but toughed it out. They had no problems after the first day. My son had a really[sup]2[sup]2[/sup][/sup] hard time. I will almost certainly not bring him on a cruise again. It wasn’t seasickness, but he was really unhappy, which for him turns into anger. We managed to arrive at movies in his stateroom and hamburgers, which kept him happy the rest of the week. I was sorry that he didn’t enjoy things, but sometimes his thinking just isn’t elastic enough for new experiences. He needs the familiar.
Other than that, we had an awesome time. We went up to Hubbard Glacier. We saw whales, and seals, and eagles, and bears, and salmon, and otters. We saw Mendenhall Glacier in Juneau. We relaxed, unplugged, read books, and had a great time.
Part 3: South America and Antartica
I’m planning our next cruise. There are only 3 of these a year, 1 in December and 2 in January (with this cruise line anyway). Let me know if anyone wants to go. Starts in Brazil, down around the Cape, down to Antartica, visit the Falklands and other assorted islands, ends in Argentina. Takes 3 weeks. I’m already ridiculously excited. I know some of you like to cruise, so I thought I’d throw it out there.
You are doing something wrong; ours always turn out moist and yummy.
You had newspapers out of the garbage? We had to settle for the collected writings of Donald Trump!!!
See? You can trust Swampy on things like this; he is from Georgia after all.
It reminds me of the new version of the old joke about the fellow who gets bit on the ass by a rattlesnake. His buddy whips out his cell phone and calls 911 and asks what to do. The person responding says “make a small incision between the fang marks and suck the poison out or your buddy may not last until help can get to you”. So he ends the call and looks at his friend and says “Sorry Bob – looks like you are going to die”.
Since you sort of mentioned Fort Necessity (as we call port-o-johns) ------- a photographer/reporter from a local paper once spent an entire Saturday with us. We paddled him around in a real birch-bark canoe, fired our muskets, posed however he asked. What photo ended up on the front page of the Sunday edition? One of my buddies in full kit coming out of a port-o-john. :smack:
If said reporter had returned, several Abenaki with us had evil intent upon his person.
That reminds me of when the local news interviewed several of us grade schoolers about what an solar eclipse was. Did they use those of us who knew the right answer? No. It was cuter to use the nimrods spouting nonsense about fairies stealing the sun. :smack:
**Sunny **- we want to do a SoAmerica/Antarctica cruise, but unless FCD’s business does really, really well, there’s no way we can swing it. A couple of years back, I did the numbers and it would run somewhere between $10-$15K before it was all done. I don’t remember which cruise line it was or how long it was - probably no more than 2 weeks - but that just isn’t doable for us. So it may never happen.
Looks like we may get a bit of a respite from the rain. Maybe. We shall see.
Meanwhile, Josh gave me a project yesterday and I have an email from Tim for a metric buttload of drawings for the Brazil project, so I shall be kept busy for a while. Huzzah!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 72 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 91 and rain/tstorms/apocalypse predicted this afternoon. We shall see. Today is lay in provisions day. Don’t need much stuff so hopefully ‘twill be a quick trip. If the salmon filets look good I shall purchase a couple for sup purposes tomorrow. Tonight we sup upon beast tips ‘n rice, white acre peas, carrots, and rolls. I got me a gnawin’ and a cravin’ for some beast tips 'n rice. Other than that just some mundane household chores around da cave. Rah.
Now I need more caffeine and rumbly tummy wants sustenance. Then purtification and the puttin’ on of goin’ about the public clothin’ must ensue. Bother!
I never want to go on a cruise. I get motion-sick way too easily. I’m bad enough on planes. And I’ve heard that disease spreads easily on cruise ships.
I could list other reasons, but I gotta go to an appointment now.
Sunny, thanks for the offer, but like FCM the cost is too high right now, what with remodeling and all. Maybe in a couple of years…I’ve got six continents visited, maybe by then I’ll be ready for a seventh…
And if the S. America trip doesn’t work out, I can recommend the Baltics as an alternative.
Midget, the cruise ships are so large these days and have so many stabilizing machinery that’s it’s hard to get sick on them…and there are medicines for it. Me, I’ve taken over 15 cruises and enjoyed every one of them. Might want to consider a river cruise.
Contractor said I’d get some building materials dropped off on Tuesday, but nothing showed…until 0530 this morning, when some wooden stuff was left in my driveway. I’m sure the neighbors were as thrilled as I was.
75F going to 88F with no rain in sight. Watered the back yard last night, front yard will get its’ share today.
Now need to get some bread from the store and break fast.
