I don't know how you guys do it

I mean the mods. I was a moderator once for a couple of years on a large movie forum. It’s an experience I never wish to repeat. It was OK when I started but over time I became more and more impatient, less inclined to be polite to fools, in fact downright rude, imperious and overbearing. Needless to say I was not popular! In the end I saw what was happening to me, apologized, and resigned. Since I left I’ve seen the same sort of thing on other boards, mods throwing their weight around and treating posters with disrespect and discourteousness. But rarely on this one. I take my hat off to you all. And I still don’t know how you do it!

Well, the ones we do ban, we take an inordinate amount of glee in. It sort of channels the imperiousness constructively-- That helps.

Yes, but you have the decency to make it private glee seen only on the Mod channel. I doubt I’d have that much restraint were I in that role.

So, just like here, right?

My theory is that the Mods don’t actually exist in real life. It is really a computer program developed for the SDMB by Charles Forbin or Stephen Falken.

I fear it could go bad at any minute.

Funny, I coulda sworn there used to be a post by kopek just above mine. Perhaps he angered the wrong neural net for the last time?

Not for the last time. The neural net will continue to be angered afresh every microsecond, for all eternity.

To clarify, was this a forum to discuss IMAX films, or was it a large forum that discussed all movies?

When an online game I used to play got bought out by Disney, boy did I get a lot of mod warnings. One warned me for using the term “money shot” in my post, despite the fact that the game also used it.

It’s OK. They closed the game down, so that means I won.

ETA: @Chronos:
In an interesting coincidence I was reading this wiki last night before this thread was posted: Existential risk from artificial general intelligence - Wikipedia

Or was that maybe not a coincidence? Skynet awakens.

Good morning, Dave.

Hookers, blow and booze.

I second this. I am constantly amazed at the restraint shown by the mods when dealing with imbeciles & assholes. I too would be downright rude, imperious, and overbearing. That must be one hell of a coffee mug.

No one forgets where they buried the rolled up newspaper …

It’s a bottomless coffee mug. The mods never have to brew fresh coffee again.

I am most inspired by the illustration by slug.

Is it Thursday already?

It’s always Thursday when you are a mod.

Regards,
Shodan

Would be? :stuck_out_tongue:

I second too, but I think the mods are also great when dealing with intelligent and rational posters. I’ve been here for a dozen years now and by and large the moderation staff has always been of really high standard in judgement, communication and wit. I have also been a moderator but I would not qualify for the job here. Hats off to you, guys.
