I don't like coffee or beer

I can’t stand coffee. I can’t stand beer. I am amazed at how many folks on this board agree with me. Where have you been all my life?

As a matter of fact, as far as beverages go, I would make a perfectly good Morman (unless they have started objecting to chocolate). (Mormans aren’t supposed to consume alcohol or caffine.) As a general rule, I don’t drink any caffinated beverages, if you ignore the tiny bit of caffine in chocolate-flavored beverages. I don’t like tea, and carbonated beverages don’t seem to like me.

I don’t care for the taste of alcohol, either. I can stand drinks in which the alcohol taste is buried under other strong flavors, such as the chocolate and mint flavors in a grasshopper, but I don’t see any point in drinking them. My mind is messed up enough already. And I can’t stand the taste of beer, even when the alcohol is cooked out, so forget cooking with beer.

The cafe au lait at the Cafe du Monde is dee-licious! And so are the beignets.

Yes, it is strange. I think those Americans have not been to Europe where the coffee is wonderful, and there are some fine beers and wine. I do not get headaches in Europe when I drink alcohol. I think there are preservatives or additives in U.S. alcohol.

Well, I like straight coffee, with no milk or sugar whatsoever. Tea is also great, better than coffee, and the same standards of purity apply. It’s awful in the South, where the locals insist on putting a mountain of sugar in their iced tea and drown coffee in various cowey products.

Both beverages are pure nirvana cold, and I brew them very strongly - none of the wimpy flavored water that passes for coffee in America for me, please. I drink them hot only in the mornings, but since I’ve given up caffeine, the points are moot. The bad effects caffeine has on me - namely, stuttering, nervousness and the pressing need to urinate every half hour - outweigh any alertness benefit, which I could get by creative sleep scheduling.

And beer? Tastes like metallic bilge-water to me. The harder liquors remind me of rubbing alcohol and make me gag. The only alcoholic beverage I have a taste for are some of the better wines, and only in extreme moderation - never more than about six ounces in one day. I have never been intoxicated, and alcohol gives me this very uncomfortable feeling of clammy warmth that I would like to avoid. Ick.

Without coffee and beer, life would have no point…

I also do not like coffee or beer (oh the horror, a Canuck that doesn’t like beer).

I used to try all of the beers I could, hoping to find one I liked, but YECH!

Coffee smell wonderful though. My SO also doesn’t drink coffee, we do have a coffee maker, but it has never been used.

*In Heaven There Is No Beer
(traditional Polka, public domain)

In Heaven there is no beer
That’s why we drink it here
And When we’re gone from here
All our friends will be drinking all our beer

In Heaven there is no wine
Lets drink til we feel fine
And When it comes our time
All our friends will be drinking all our wine

In Heaven there is no drink
At least thats what we think
And When we go ca-plink
All our friends will be drinking all our drink

In Heaven there is no beer
That’s why we drink it here
And When we’re gone from here
All our friends will be drinking all our beer

In Heaven there is no beer
Let’s stay and Drink it here
And When our friends aren’t here
We will be drinking all their beer

Oh My!
My dad used to love that song!

“I don’t smoke and I don’t chew—and I don’t go with the boys who do.”
