I Fall To Pieces: An Autumn MMP

Ha. I hadn’t thought about that! Good point!

‘Vacation’ (Ha!) is over. There were something like 43 emails in my inbox this morning. Fortunately, many of them were about problems with the printer or other admin stuff. I started at 0615, and I’ve got the actual work cut down to 19 emails. Ten of them require pulling Business Profile Reports, so thats a pain. I’ll get through the month-end data files first.

So the physical plant guys cleaned out the motor boxes. Which meant piles of dust/dirt/bits of package/squirrel feet everywhere. Including the smalls belt, which threw it everywhere. The entire shift was like being inside of a rollsuck supreme. And things kept breaking. And a truck was late. So I ended up with decent hours for the day. Whew.

Gordie’s record is 6 hours straight(exactly how long it took to replace the windows a few years ago)

Remember to fall back. Unless you have too much tequila Saturday, then fall forward.

I’m having a crabby day. I have to train the new guy and this is proving to be a LOT more work than anticipated. I have to go to my PCP this afternoon to get an order for PT that starts tomorrow. Don’t ask. And I have a lot of work that annoys me.

It’s a lovely, brisk fall day here in Flatland (a.k.a. suburban Chicago) – after most of September and October were unseasonably warm, it’s really nice that it finally feels like autumn here.

I did some closet purging over the weekend, and donated two big trash bags full of sweatshirts and pajama pants to Goodwill yesterday. There’s still much more to be purged, but it felt good to make some progress on it.

We had maybe 40 or 50 kids trick-or-treating yesterday, but we bought way too much candy, and now diabetic me needs to resist temptation regarding the leftovers.

Feeling pretty good this morning – Mr. Hernia is behaving himself, for the moment. I’m spending much of the day on conference calls (kind of the norm), but things are going well so far on the work front.

Sending good Monday vibes to all!

Poor Gordie, but at least he had a reason

Irk is boring today. Not much to do.

There is waaaay too much chocolate left over at Casa Silenus. Had a brief early rush, then nothing. What, oh what am I going to do with all these full-sized candy bars?

Now that Halloween is over, I can concentrate on getting stuff done for the annual Thanksgiving camping trip. New recipes to test, old favorites to prep. Going to be a busy month. Next up on the baking schedule: pizza bread.

Fly low, stay cool and remember Lagunculae Leydianae Non Accedunt.

A survey I saw a couple of years ago showed that more working people wore all black on Mondays than any other day of the week.

Things were quiet here last night, we had our lights off and only heard signs of one ToTer. The roads are dark and the homes spread apart, most folks take their little monsters to the park for Trunk or Treat, so that might not have been a ToTer I heard at all.

George and Mom are buddies again, but George doesn’t understand that he’s twice as big as he was when they last saw each other and he just doesn’t fit as well on her lap or in her arms.

Mom’s zoom meet-up friends were very entertained by watching George spaz around on her bed during their meeting. He’s a kitten and was “On” at the time. He’s “Off” now, he hasn’t learned about other speeds yet.

It’s been getting down in the 40’s at night and I’m dithering over the tomatoes. Take them out or leave them on the vines to ripen? I’m still getting a couple of beefsteaks and a handful of cherries every day.

Thanks, all, for the good wishes.

I’d forgotten while on the phone with her (!!!) but … she used to do heroin.

She’s moved, since those dark days, and I’m clinging to a thin hope that she hasn’t found new connections.
But, I know how addicts do their groovy thing.

Sent her a quick “thinking of ya” text about an hour ago, and have sent fervent wishes to Other Shoe who was close with her, too, asking him to please watch over her.

It’s my Catholic upbringing showing its roots - begging someone, anyone, to intercede.

Back from a ride down to Solomons. I don’t think I mentioned, but we starting to think about acquiring a boat - a trawler this time rather than a sailboat. So as part of the planning, we went back to 3 of the marinas we have occupied in the past. We saw a boat that is exactly what we’d like and found out it’s on the market. But when we looked it up, well, we’re not buying any $110K boat. It looks really nice from the pics, but that’s waaaaaaaaaaay out of our comfort range. On the other hand, I could buy a few PowerBall tickets…

We’re not in any hurry to buy, but we’re looking in the 35-40’ range, preferably not more than a couple of hundred miles from here. I think the first step will be going to see as many as we can nearby to get a feel for what we’d like. We know sailboats, but trawlers, not so much. Who know how long it will take, but looking is fun.

I leave in about 30 minutes to fetch Roxy - her mom has one of her last few Dr appts before babby arrival. Theoretically, Toby will be here in 2 weeks. I guess we’re in the home stretch now, right? Second kids can be faster than firsts, right? Stay tuned for developments!

Afternoon all. Jersey Mike’s sammich has been consumed and some shopping at Kroger completed (I’ll do the remainder tomorrow at Publix). All groceries are stowed away in their proper places. That concludes the major activities for Moanday, the rest of the day will be given over to sloth and hedonism.

Did get info on the Topeka trip from Sis-in-Law, so I’ll leave here Tuesday before Thanksgiving, stop somewhere on the way, and get in Wednesday, and then leave Saturday. Staying at a hotel (County Inn & Suites) this time, and need to find one in Illinois as they have sold their house (big two-story, 5-bedroom place good for a 3-kid family, not so practical for a retired couple) and are still looking for a replacement.

FCM, good luck on the boat shopping; never lived near water (except Lake Erie in the 1950’s/60’s) and outside of cruises, not really interested in boats. But sounds like you and FCD know what you want and that’s a great start.

Shoe, like you, I tend to internalize my grief, not express it. So I admire what you are doing for your friend. Take care of yourself, however, while taking care of her.

Sari, I’ve known dogs like that who seemingly can’t stop barking. Hope it doesn’t mess up your relationship with the parks people.

talky, don’t think I’ve ever seen a house TP’ed here in N. Ali-bama. Maybe not a thing here? And the kid doing the scaring was lucky there wasn’t a parent with them (here the parents are out in force) or he might have have had an interesting trick or treat.

On trick-or-treat, two notes from last night; first kid was a girl about 6-7, she got her stuff from my bowl, and then grinned and gave me a 'thumbs-up" that made me feel pretty good. Then a little while later I had the door ajar (they were coming thick and fast) and one young man (I’d guess 8-9) advised me that it’s not safe to leave your door open and that I should probably keep mine closed. Kinda tickled at that–but I did keep my door closed the rest of the night…

Ok, house is heating up nicely so a nice hot bath is now on the agenda. All y’all take care.

Every month in one of my data files I see an address in Hawaii on Hoohana Street.

‘Hoohana’ just sounds dirty.

“Ho’ohana” is Hawaiian for “purposeful work.”

Sounds dirty to me, too!

I am having a crappy day, health-wise. I will try to come back tomorrow.

In the meantime, happy Monday!

Someone help me out. Dafuq ^^^ does that mean?

Google Translate indicates that it is (more or less) “Batteries not included”.

Welcome back home to Tennessee St G! Feel free to hang out with us.

Hugs to you and your friend shoe.

They added something to my irk station today that should have been added before (the station was underworked enough that I was helping out one of my cow-orkers). No problema.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Before I forget, here is 'Beamette’s costume.

Howdy Y’all! I forgot to mention earlier that today was also cafe spiffin’ day, so cleanin’ lady was here. Plumbers dug up some of the yahd over to the church house and found the leak. I have informed EYP and appropriate others that the water is off in the church but not the Parish Hall. The leak shall be fixed tomorrow. After that whatever is necessary to put the yahd back together shall be done. I foresee some sod or maybe just grass seed. We shall see. OYKW scored some fun size Snickers, Milky Ways, Three Musketeers and some Hershey’s minis. Go Him! Sup got cooked and et and the kitchen cleanded up. Thus was Moanday. Chillage now ensues.

shoe sorry about your friend’s loss. Good on ya for bein’ there for her. Take care of yourself as well, OK?

After irking all day, I’ve got the number down to 22.
