FCD declared the chili with brats a success. It’s simmering away right now. I have a small batch of sloppy joes simmering also. Guess what’s for supper!
I cut my right index finger on the lid of the kidney bean can, so I have a boo-boo bandage. Luckily, I managed not to bleed in supper. So there’s that. Speaking of which, what can I do with about 2-3 cups of dark red kidney beans, besides make more chili? Open for suggestions.
Daughter is being showered at school today. I looked at her baby registry and she’s getting (or has gotten) all the big ticket items she listed, including a new baby car seat, a toddler booster seat, a crib mattress, and a double stroller. Her coworkers are very generous! I suspect it’s a whole-school shower, so she may get some little things from students, too. I hope her car is big enough! Less than 2 weeks to babby!
Morning all. Body declared it a sleep-in day, so didn’t get up until 9:18am. Nothing much on the schedule until soccer practice at 5pm, so might even do some house cleaning…or not.
May have to look into some type of maid service for 2022, not that my house is a disaster, just needs someone who will do the jobs I hate.
nellie, hope the shots and the local allergist work out for you.
51F here heading for 58F, looks like Fall is locked in for the next few months. Probably need to take my warm-weather comforter off the bed and take it to the Dry Cleaners and haul out the cold-weather one.
FCM, could the pain be from some type of repetitive action associated with knitting? Have no clue, just hope you feel better soon.
In the orifice today. Mrs. L.A. said the roofers started at 0730. They should have been done Sunday, but they didn’t start Saturday. I know they still have one section of roof to scrape, re-sheet, etc.; and I know they want to put Torchdown around the chimney. Oh, and they need to put a rain deflector over the front door. The rest of the roof I can see looks pretty much done.
Our next-door neightbour texted me he’s coming up today. (I’d texted him to ask if we could park in his driveway.) Mrs. L.A.'s car is parked where he asked in the text; and as I said, I’m gone. If the roofers still have their truck in our driveway when I get home, I’ll park on the street.
Took the girl this morning to the doc to get her annual jabs. I cannot WAIT until she can get her Big Jab (aka, COVID vaccine). Every single time I go in there, I leave feeling better. This pediatrician is incredible about setting aside as much time as needed to talk. She asked if I had any concerns about the girl and I mentioned that the kid (who is 11) keeps asking me if she’s fat. She immediately booted me out of the room and had a long discussion with my daughter about body image, where it was coming from, etc. It was a huge relief. We’ve talked about our bodies quite a bit but there are some things even kids need to hear from a professional.
Anyway, it’s bright and beautiful outside. I didn’t get a waddle in this morning so hopefully I can do it between meetings. I only got about 3 hours of sleep last night so it’ll have to be a stroll. The husband accidentally woke me up as he was going to bed (his joints crack so loud they’re like cannon fire) and snored so loud I went downstairs for an hour, then came back up, staggered about for ear plugs and passed out around 3 a.m. Wish he would do a sleep study - if he’s keeping me up, he’s got to be miserable in the morning when he wakes up. Oh, well. First things first - got him in to get his eyeballs checked (hence the blepharitis diagnosis); next, we’ll take care of the sleep.
nellie, I think I remember you saying that you dealt with blepharitis before. The thought of the surgery gives me a bit of the heebie jeebies but if it helps him, hopefully he’ll do it. The doc mentioned it was a one eye at a time kind of thing and they’ll try to do it outpatient but slicing open one’s eyelid seems like it should be a little more monitored?
“. . .The issue is when you hit the big 6-5, antihistamines can cause dementia. . . .”
Wait, what? I just turned 65, and I take a Claritin every day. It prevents my mouth from developing canker sores. When I try to taper off of them, the canker sores come right bank. I don’t want to have to give them up. Yet another thing to talk to my doc about.
VBC also has “lay on the back of the loveseat while surveying my domain and plotting against my enemies” mode. George wouldn’t have the sense to eat my hands, VGC doesn’t have the teeth to do it, but VBC wouldn’t bother to wait until I was cold, she’d start eating at dinner time!
I haven’t hit the 65 mark yet, can I blame my problem with day/dates on the Claritin anyhow? Hubs has already passed the big 65, but he doesn’t usually take Claritin, so can’t blame that for making him forget to boil his priming sugar AGAIN this morning. (He puts a sugar water syrup in the beer when he’s bottling it to help with the carbonation.)
FCM I’ve been noticing that my wrists start to ache if I stitch for longer than an hour at a time. Of course I’m denying that there is any sort of problem, but it does seem as though there can be too much of a good thing.
I was a bit off about the shower - the students were all virtual today, so the shower was just staff. Apparently even Roxy got some gifts (they all know Roxy there.) And they took my daughter out to lunch at a really nice local restaurant. I’m guessing she’s pretty well prepared for Toby’s arrival.
I don’t think I mentioned - Toby’s initials will be TOG, so my goofball SIL says he’s going to call him tee-OH-gee, spelled Tioji? I know his mom doesn’t like the name Toby because of the mini-series Roots. But SIL never saw Roots and he wanted to call his son Tobias. I suppose they don’t need to use a nickname at all. Anyway, my SIL is a goof. And he needs a haircut. FCD has been on his case about that for a few weeks now.
I’ll admit, he looks kinda scruffy, but it’s not like he’s sporting a giant Afro, a la 1960s! And I’m pretty sure he has other things on his mind, like impending son and impending ACL surgery.
Sheets are in the dryer. I checked my veggies - I have 4 little pepper plants and half a dozen 'mater plants and they look relatively happy. So maybe I’ll have a crop after all? Cat hair has been roll-sucked. I helped FCD do his exercises, then massaged the achy parts. He’s napping now, and I think I’ll try sitting on the couch while knitting and watch some more Bleak House on BritBox.
Read all, but did not retain anything. I’m old ya’know.
Excitement in our lives: Wifey had unusual chest pains about 8:00 last night so I drove her to the ER (it’s a 3 minute drive.) We were there until almost midnight. she wasn’t having a heart attack. They didn’t know what it was. My nighttime meds need to be taken an hour apart so’s they don’t interfere with each other, so I didn’t get into bed until 1:00. That’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it.
Mom, you can tell everyone you were injured in the knitting wars.
(I know, I know, but it amused me.)
Well I just learned that 4 kids get dropped off by the school bus right at the end of my driveway. I think that’s kinda cool. There are 3 new to the neighborhood kids who live just up the street that “T’s” into the main road right across from me and 1 who lives 2 houses up. In the mornings, they get picked up on the other side of the road. I’m fairly certain none of these kids lived here pre-pandemic.
I do like that kids from neighboring houses are gathering together to catch the bus. It seems that when I’m behind a school bus these days it stops at every. single. house. for 1 kid. That’s annoying.
When I was a youngster, we had to meet at the entrance road to the subdivision, prolly half a mile from my house, up to a mile for some who lived further in, to catch the bus. Then there were the daily games of touch football in the street until the bus arrived.
That was a cool costume Beamette was wearing sunny.
Here’s hoping the shots work for you nellie.
Mooooooom, I think chili will be on the menu at CasaRoja this weekend too. I usually mix a half pound of ground pork, chorizo or Italian sausage with the ground beef, a habit I got into when I made venison chili.
Feel better soonest BooFae!
Irked, got a new project for tomorrow, came home, walked Nelson and et. Such excitement!
I had it done about 3 years ago, on both eyes at the same time. At an outpatient surgery center, in at 7am, son picked me up and drove me home about 1pm. Very easy and simple. Wish I had done it years earlier.
Mind you, I was pretty scary looking for about a month, raccoon bruises and tiny sutures circling both eyes, but nothing hurt and I don’t remember needing any pain medication. Had I been thinking I would have scheduled it for the day before Halloween and had an instant costume.
Howdy Y’all! Laundry got did and I even made some taco soup in the slow cooker. It will be sup tomorrow. Taco soup is always better the day after it’s made. Also, the plumber called me to inform that the leaky pipe over to the church house is fixed and that they shoveled the dirt back and put caution tape around the area. I don’t know why anyone would wander over to where the fixed pipe is, but it is always best not to underestimate the number of stoopid people. I am surprised I have not gotten calls or texts about this. Mayhaps no wandered over toward the church proper today.
MetalMouse I highly recommend hirin’ a maid service or housekeeper. We have become highly spoiled grumpy old retired drains on society since we did.
So glad I put the electric blanket on today. Crawling into a pre-warmed bed is soooooooooo nice.
Tomorrow is my sweetie’s birthday. I’m taking him out to breakfast, then to see Dune in the afternoon. He decided he preferred breakfast out to lunch. So that will be my day tomorrow.
Not a lot to talk about today. Big event was a Costco run that included DH’s flu shot. Nabbed a couple of jumbo frozen lasagnas on sale, one of which is now in the oven. Walmart order today also had a fair amount of frozen stuff, so fairly challenging game of freezer Tetris, but we got everything in.
DH reports no side effects as of yet, not even what he would consider normal soreness at an injection site.
Mrs. L.A. has started rearranging the back bedroom. There’s still stuff all over outside of the bedroom. She found an ammo case full of 5.56 mm ball rounds that’s still sealed. I think the last time I went to the range was 2007. Maybe 2006.
She found my large, and regular-size Cold Steel khukris too. And the Gerber Mk II I bought in the '80s. The khukris might make nice ant-zombie weapons, but I think a regular machete would be better. (I use the machetes for yard work.)
