Way back on Thanksgiving we adopted a kitten from our local animal shelter, just two weeks before the shelter shut down. She was a 12 week old black kitten that lived only to be held and loved, which is exactly what I needed in my life. Her name is Emma, because of her Emmarold-green eyes. She gets along great with Lily and Otto, and has brought great joy to the singular household. The only problem is getting a good picture of her - I never knew how hard it is to get a good picture of a black cat! Here’s my little beauty!
She is such a trip - endless energy, followed by sudden collapse on whoever is closest to cuddle with, be it man or reluctant beast. She’s energized the other pets, too - their supercharged play is a delight! I’m especially fond of when she catches a glimpse of me across the room and suddenly bounds over to me and up on my lap, nose-to-nose, her eyes locked on mine the whole time. She brings the sqees!
She’s a doll! You have some good Lol cat material right there.
Awwwwwwwwww! I love that one pose, she looks like a supermodel. The one with the dog is sweet, you should lolcat that one, something like “if goggie tells anyone about this I’ll kill it”.
Thanks for adopting a black kitty, they suffer from prejudice and don’t get adopted as much but most black kitties I have met are sweeties. I have one I brought home to foster as a tiny fluff ball who ended up staying with me, he likes Eskimo kisses, meows like a little kitten and is now my largest (not fat) cat. I tried taking pictures when he was tiny and it just looks like a black smudge or dustball, you can’t make out any eyes or nose.
Aww, how cute. She looks a lot like our shelter-rescued acrobat did in her youth.
It’s hard to take pictures of black cats. Sometimes you just gotta wait until they’re comfortable.
I know the feeling! I’ve had a couple of black cats the last few years. Their details tend to fade into the background, unless you get the lighting just right…
1…2…3…All together now
Awwwwwww
She’s sweet.
Congratulations.
Wow, what a cutie!

I have a black kitty and if he’s any example, they are all so sweet. And yours is no exception. What a lovely little black beauty!
What a cute little fuzzmeister!
The best time to photograph black cats is when they are relaxing in the sun and their fur looks like a lovely chocolate brown color, especially the tummies.
Thanks, folks! I do want to catch her napping in the sun, but catching her sleeping is rare - she seems to sleep while I’m at work or she sleeps with me, but I’ll keep it up. I did get one shot of her when she was doing the runrightupyourlegtoyourchestwhilelockingeyes bit, catching her in closeup and heavily flashed, and I was surprised that her fur did look chocolate brown with darker brown tabby stripes underneath. There’s beautiful black kittehs here at the Dope! I’m glad to join the club - she does seem to be just about the sweetest kitteh evar!
