Looks much, much, much bigger. Sam and Frodo tromping through the Dead Marshes looked perfect. Gandalf the White revealing himself looked perfect. Helms Deep looked perfect. Aragorn swordfighting Eowyn looked perfect.
But…
Was that Legolas surfing down the stairs on a shield?!?
Huh? Alone, that scene looked a bit odd. I sure hope it fits in context. Otherwise, I might have to… well, there’s really nothing that I’ll do except complain about it when I see it, but then gush over everything else!
That shield doesn’t look too bad if it’s done quickly. Just another way to show his agility. I’m personally concerned with Saruman dying by being impaled on a spike.
Yeah, that’s looking to be fairly ridiculous. But I don’t have a huge problem with that. I didn’t completely buy his “death” in the books, and an audience wouldn’t either. Especially after the huge conclusion on Mt. Doom and in front of Minith Tirith. I know they’ll have the Scouring of the Shire, but Saruman’s involvement there isn’t completely necessary, as long as they have Wormtongue there.
Hmmm… I want to post something about the trailer (which I really liked!), but it’s kind of a spoiler, and I don’t want to give it away… but I don’t know how to do that cool spoiler code everyone’s doing! Tutorial, anyone?
Anyway, basically, I’m surprised that the trailer gives away a big plot point in the second movie/book. Of course, those of us who have read the books already know this happens, but people who haven’t read the books and saw the first film don’t know it’s coming… and I was surprised they give it away in this trailer! Kinda ruins some of the suspense and surprise.
Still, the trailer was done so well (even the surprise bit), that I couldn’t help but get sucked into it. I can’t believe we still have to wait 5 months for the film… heavy sigh
Got a cite for that? Every official source I’ve seen has said that they won’t. And, of course, if they don’t have it, then they need some other death scene for Saruman.
I think I spoiled that in my first paragraph. But I imagine you meant the reappearance of Gandalf not remaining a secret. Well, they could have done that, but they lose having an Oscar nominated actor/role not do promotionals for them. Plus, people familiar with the story know he’s coming back, and his return isn’t exactly the climax of the 2nd movie.
Chronos, I don’t know what I was talking about. Please ignore my babbling.
yeah, that’s the one… I missed that before somehow, in your first post. Bad me.
Oh well. My point, I suppose, was that yeah, people already familiar with the story knew that was coming, but people unfamiliar with it (my wife, for example) didn’t. She thought Gandalf was toast, and was genuinely surprised to see him again in the trailer. It’s not the climax of the film, but it’s a pretty big deal, don’t you think?
But yeah, the promotional thing is probably what did it. I can totally see what you’re saying there.
I don’t have a problem with Legolas doing a quick bit of bannister-surfing–he’s already done quick bits of running-along-cave-troll-chain-after-just-dodging-it, after all.
For example:
<spoiler> Gandalf is Frodo’s great great granduncle </spoiler>*
Gandalf is Frodo’s great great granduncle
If you want to see how someone does a bit of coding, hit the “quote” button in that post and it’ll show you in the reply box.
Also, towards the bottom of the page, under Forum Rules, you’ll see an link entitled vB code is On:; click it, and it’ll lay out all of the codes.
*No, that’s not true, I know.
Also, kids today, when I started on the boards we had to type out all of the vB codes, they weren’t laid out in the reply box
You are right, they will not have the Scouring of the Shire in the final movie. Peter Jackson said the whole looking pool think with Galadriel was his homage to it since he is removing it from the story.
Not only that, but They took the large spider out of the end of Two Towers and put it at the beginning of Return of the King
