I fought Amazon the Pit edition

Well, don’t want any bannination What_Exit

So how do I start this thing?

So I took a bit of a victory lap in finally getting my refund from Amazon in this thread

I didn’t want or expect accolades. Most related that they’ve not had a problem with Amazon before. I did too, regarding how I once I ordered ONE computer monitor holder arm, and they sent me TWO (only charging me once). I offered to send one back - they said “nah, keep it”. Not the first time they’'ve been supporting.

Nor did I figuratively grab the Dope Microphone and shout out loud, people should read it. I made a post to MPSIMS after spending a lot of time over 7 weeks trying to get the refund they promised in the first two emails after I called support. I’m not saying you must read them, yet both are there.

This thread turned into a point/counterpoint with @DrDeth. To him, I could only have abused/violated Amazon’s policy. The fact that I said they never claimed any attempt at delivery, nor did they give me any grief about cancelling, didn’t matter for shit to this shill.

Some might read it as I ordered a phone for my wife’s birthday, and the courier NEVER came on day one. I called them, “Sorry, we’ll look into it. It will come tomorrow”. No courier came the next day, either. Amazon isn’t always perfect, and sometimes they don’t make it. Yet here, they had not even tried. I ordered a phone. You must wait till Amazon deigns to actually send it to you!

I was jerked around for 7 weeks, disputing with my bank and also filing a small claims court case as a backup. My bank had not gone to its vault and paid me back in November, as many banks might do (conditionally). And Amazon had absolutely not paid me as they said they would, twice to begin with.

I can summarise dozens of email correspondence with their Support as:

  • We have/will send you the funds (like a normal refund)
  • We will send them as a chargeback (via my bank)
  • We have no further information. Contact your bank.
  • We have satisfied and closed this matter. Contact your bank.
  • We don’t know if we’ve satisfied this matter. Wait 22 days, and we’ll tell you then. And 22 days later, they knew claimed they had sent a chargeback November 25. . Call your bank.

They never responded (nor did they need to, yet) to the MCOL small claims court matter. It was just a late Christmas miracle that they went the chargeback route on the very last day that this matter could henceforward only be settled via the MCOL, which, unless things get really real, is just me uploading dozens of files and them saying “meep” and writing “We Are Mighty Amazon. Dismiss this frivolous case at once!”

Now I’m not going to get out my whiteboard and try to explain anything better to DrDeth. I made an offhand joke that Amazon doesn’t open palettes of Christmas mail sent to Jeff Bezos.

I did not say Jeff Bezos was the CEO. I wasn’t writing to the CEO. As I explained, I was sending snail mail to AMAZON LEGAL in London.

It is commonly known to those who have the misfortune to take on this behemoth company that they cannot bother to read any of that mail - unless a certain “someone must sign and acknowledge receipt” type of mail is sent.

At least three times, I explained to him that this was a small claims case and I did not hire any lawyers. This would all have begun either in January or, if Amazon wanted, they could and would be granted a 28-day extension to February, no reason needed. This is precisely what I expected would happen.

So shred me for the original post. Or insulting an American Institution (I used to buy in the USA as well). Or shred me for opening this thread - anyone.

One fucking thing I am not going to do is debate endlessly that I was wrong, do not know what I am talking about, or whatever the fuck he wants from me.

Put him on ignore. You’ll be much happier for it. Ask me how I know.

LOL!

Also, @Coriolanus, the individual in question has his own lengthy Pit thread. You might feel motivated to post a comment there, too. The guy is pathologically argumentative. The concept of “just let it go” is not in his DNA. I know some of us can be persistent arguers – and I include myself – but in this dude it rises to the level of a mental illness. If you happen to start an argument with him on one of his hot-button topics, you are well and truly doomed. Just leave the thread and/or put him on “ignore”.

Yup, my experience here is so much better now.

People were definitely being dicks to you in that thread

From the 2028 Presidential candidates thread today:

Who is this guy and what has he done with the real DrDeth??

The only unusual thing I’m seeing there is that he wants to head off a hijack which he did not start.

I disagree. I think people (including myself) were trying to understand the situation and offering suggestions. But I think the OP has been through a lot with this whole saga and was looking for more empathy. I’ve tried to rectify this with my last post. Hopefully my the rest of my post with some additional suggestions doesn’t obscure that.

Still, while I for one am certainly not going to defend Amazon, the OP does come across as having a bit of a chip on his shoulder from the beginning with posts like these and repeated screeds about Jeff Bezos and his money.

So maybe don’t order from them?

There was certainly some of that too

What’s the alternative? I hate big tech and their bros like Bezos like every other sane person, but I’m living in a small village 50 km away from the next fairly big town, and I can’t afford to drive that far for every little item I need, so I order them at Amazon. A dear friend of mine who’s a paying Prime member gave me one of their shares for Prime privileges like 24h delivery with no shipping costs, and that changed my life a bit.

Okay, I left out a “now”. Could you not figure that out? Nice one, I won’r order from them. Excellent advice I’d never have arrived at.

I still have eBay of course. Yet I’ve started to use Temu (dunno if that’s in the USA or if Trump banned it)

Ok, I sometimes order things at Ebay, too, but not often, and they don’t have the same choice as Amazon. As for Temu, I heard that they predominantly sell crap which dissolutes after a few days…

I had heard that too. And there very much is a caveat emptor for some of their products. I’ve not had a problem nor has my wife thus far. If my toolbox explodes (or falls apart) I’ll take robby’s excellent advice not to order from them either. Learn something new everyday.

Nah, I just didn’t know the reputation of the person I was talking about. I was not looking for accolades and hope I’ve answered the ‘why did you…?’, ‘why didn’t you…?’ questions to everyone’s satisfaction (with the caveat - love that word - that the person I debated with has that kind of a reputation so I don’t care what his opinions are)

I had no particular problem with anyone else, really. It’s a free country. Or something.

Quite a lot of things can be ordered either direct from the manufacturer’s site, or from some retailer other than Amazon which carries them. Many brick and mortars will ship.

Maybe this Ordering discussion can go to its own thread? Or back to the original?

Need, or want? If you’re getting your bread and milk from Amazon, then yes, there’s a problem. But it depends on what the items are.

You mean the River? That’s the only Amazon I know.

Yeah, I get what you mean, and no, I don’t get my milk from Amazon. But I’ll tell you an example: I shave old-style, and I needed a shaving brush. Went to the nearest Rossmann store, the quasi-monopolist here for drugstores. They had a huge shelf full of shaving articles and gear for men, but no fucking shaving brushes. So I had two alternatives: take a 50 km roundtrip to the nearest town that had a drugstore from another branch, blowing around €6 for gas and an hour of my time, probably only to find they don’t carry shaving brushes either, or order one for €5 without shipping costs from Amazon, delivered the next day. I’m not well-off, so this is a no-brainer.

What if it’s a half gallon of Tuscan Dairy Farms milk?
