I get razor burn really bad.

This brought something interesting to mind.

I get razor burn really bad on my neck. I use moisturizing clear gel with glycerin that leaves the rest of my face intact if I let it sit on my skin for a while, but I always get a big red patch on my neck, especially to my right of the adam’s apple.

How do I prevent this? Should I devote extra attention there when I wash? Or would I need to use an exfoliator?

Do you shave up or down under your jawline? Try the opposite.

I get razor burn really bad on my neck and face when I do upward strokes with the razor. It gives a closer shave, but it also irritates the skin pretty bad. Make sure your razor is sharp, and your whiskers are wet. From there, I’d recommend trying different strokes, and maybe shaving slower.

Have you tried one of those Philishaves that squirts Nivea face cream out whilst you use it? I got one for Christmas and find that it makes an incredible difference.

I had the same problem, but I found some stuff at sephora that worked incredibly well…

it isn’t cheap which sucks… but it has worked for me…
they also have a razor burn repair which I have not tried.

Have you tried…

shaving in the shower?
using a menthol shaving gel?

Different blades work better for different people. Try switching.

I’m currently using the Mach 3 Turbo. Rediculous name, great shave.

I use the original Mach3 and I shave up on my neck. The main place it happens is in that depression between my adam’s apple and my right tendon that connects to my clavicle.

I find that the glycerin stuff I use prevents razor burn everywhere else but there. Maybe if I focus attention on it, the problem will go away.

I used to get razor burn really bad too. You could try switching to an electric razor. No razor burn at all and they give a pretty close shave.

Make sure you are showering/bathing with nice, hot water, and take your time in there. The heat and steam soften your whiskers, which can help reduce irritation. Also, if you use a gel or lather to shave with, make sure you really work it into your skin (especially if you shave every day). Lathers and gels don’t do much good if they’re just sitting on top of the whiskers.

FWIW, the hair on my neck grows in opposite directions on either side. Therefore, I have to shave down on the left side, but up on the right side!
