What causes razor burn? I’ve noticed that I get it sporadically; sometimes on a brand new blade, sometimes not until the the blade is 4 or 5 days old. I would chalk it up to shaving my face in general, but that would mean that I get it every time, right? I think the most annoying part is that sometimes I get tiny little pimples as a result. So if anyone knows how I can prevent that also, I would greatly appreciate it.
I suspect it’s a combination of above-averagely sensitive skin, above-averagely vigorous shaving, and less-than-ideal equipment.
Try using a pre-shave treatment that can moisten the skin better than soap and water alone. Give it a minute to work before you start shaving.
Having applied shaving foam or cream or gel, let that too sit for a minute or so and give it a chance to do its job of making the bristles easier to shave.
Try shaving carefully, in a take-your-time way, without going for ultra-perfect closeness.
Use a good quality razor and don’t use the same disposable for days on end.
After shaving, make sure you give your face a good rinse using warm soapy water, dry thoroughly, and then apply an aftershave as soon as you can - this seals the pores and has a settling effect on the skin.
