I gots a new baby snake! (Wanna help name her?)

How about Julia Squeezer?

Ducks and sprints away REALLY fast

So did I-in fact, that was the ONLY snake I liked, because real snakes are SCARY! I DO NOT LIKE SNAKES!!!

No offense to Henry and Baby Snake, though, they’re cool, but they’re snakes, and I am severely ophidiophobic.

How about Yelena? It’s the Slavic form of Helen?

Cecilia, after Cecil? You could call her Ssssecilia???

Um…explaining to 10-year-olds that the snakes are named after the title characters of “an erotic adverture” film…scratch that, explaining to their parents…would not be fun. But thanks for the idea.

Other ideas I’ve had that just stuck:

Emma
Baby
Yazmine (so I could call her “Yazzy”)
Rosie–except for that whole O’Donnell thing
Gypsy

BTW, Guinastasia, “Cecelia” is my school secretary’s name. Don’t know that she’d be flattered!

Ooooh…Gypsy is cool! One of my cats is named Gypsy after the 'Bot on MST3K. We call her Gippers, Gip-Gip, Gippersy, Gippy, Gips, Gip, Gippy-Sippy, etc.

I’d say call her Scylla, as in Scylla and Charbonis(sp) but I don’t think our resident Scylla would appreciate it. :stuck_out_tongue:

Oh, Midgard, call her Midgardette, cause she ain’t quite big enough yet.
Or Obourous (Snake that swallows its own tail.)

How about Smaug, Glaurung, Scatha, or Ancalagon, good names for serpents all.

I told Jasper I wanted a snake for my birthday and he said no. Pout pout.

Heloise is a good name!

Or Spot.

Huh. My corn snake just grabbed stuff and swallowed it so I didn’t think it was one.

Actually, it would be “Scylla and Charibdes”… or at least, that’s how they spell it on the lyric sheet for the Police’s “Wrapped Around Your Finger.”

F_X

Huh indeed, Opal! But you did say he was about double little baby’s size, which still makes him a bit of a baby. I’m not sure when they start to constrict; my 2nd corn, Cornelius, was a constricting madman (er…madsnake) when I got him at age 8 months, and about 2 feet long.

I’ve gone to my Corn Snake Manual (yes, that is what it’s called) and it doesn’t mention when little snakies Grow Into Big Constricting Snakies. It only described the constriction process. I want to say it’s around 6mos or 2 feet, though…

Yiddle. As in “itsa yiddle bitty snake”.

What about Cleopatra? She had a thing for snakes. Also, the Y on the head kind of reminds me of one of her jeweled headdresses.

WE HAVE A WINNER!

After much consideration (and discussion with the hubby, who, of course, has a say in this) baby snakie’s official name is:

Cleopatra!

The irony of the name opens up a historical mini-lesson, plus, “Cleo” is a great name in and of itself. It suits her.

Thank all of you for the great ideas!

That’s great! Give her a pat for me!

(Can you pet a snake?)

How about Yeats? It’s a boy’s name(she wouldn’t know that though, right?) but it means “waiting at the gates” which I find sort of neat.

You might not like names that unusual, but I do. Which is why one of the characters in my stories (see link) is named Price…

For what it’s worth, I think baby reptiles are adorable. Especially tortiose hatchlings.

Oooh…I’m glad I came up with the name that works! Pet little Cleo for me, ok? Oh, and one thing I forgot to mention…you can tell the kids to be gentle with her because snakes were sacred to the Egyptians.
