Wanna help me name him? He’s such a little bitty thing (hatched Oct. last year) and so far, quite friendly about being handled.
As with most corn snakes there’s an intricate “head stamp” and his coloring is primarily red and orange. I’ll add pics in the next post, but wanted to leave them off the OP in a (perhaps misguided) attempt to protect the delicate sensibilities of those who might be squeamish or fearful of reptiles.
YES IT’S A SNAKE and I’m so excited. I’ve wanted a baby corn snake for evah!
Pretty little fella.
I took some pictures of a black snake in my yard the other day thinking it was a corn snake, but maybe it was a rat snake. He wasn’t all flashy like your guy.
I wish we had corn snakes here. Not that I don’t like our garter snakes. I do. But that is all you see around here. It would be nice to have some pretty corn snakes, too.
Compare pictures of “red rat snake” “black rat snake” “corn snake”. They are all the same genus, Pantherophis.
My daughter had a corn snake when she was preschool age. The snake’s name was “Rosie”. She helped my daughter learn about the birds and bees. She knew babies came from female animals. We bred mice and fed the newborns to the snake. One day I realized there hadn’t been any new litters for a bit. We looked at the mouse tank; lo and behold, they were all females (an occasional adult would die). My daughter said, “Cool!! Lots of babies” and I had to explain why that wasn’t the case.
