I work about 30 hours a week as a behind the wheel driving instructor in the Greater Pittsburgh Area. It helps round out my pension and gets me out of the house.
Lessons are in a company car that has DRIVING SCHOOL down both sides in huge letters and STUDENT DRIVER across the back in equally huge letters.
Many of my students have little to no real driving experience. This includes both teens and adults. Further, I handle most of the schools “needs” students due to my background in education and word-of-mouth among customers that I am kind and patient with such students.
Bottom line? My students are hesitant and fearful in their first lesson or two. Most drivers give them plenty of space and are extra careful about them.
However, there is a certain class of aggressive idiot who favors expensive, full-size pickup trucks. These are the assholes that tailgate my students, high beam them, lay on their horns and otherwise beg to be killed.
Twice, in the last two days, I had such degenerates do an illegal pass on the trainer car and then spike their brakes. One overfed punching bag came to a complete stop and started to get out of his truck. So, I got out too. The client, a 16 year old emotional-support girl, was frightened and in tears.
Maybe he had a moment of clarity and realized what an asshole he was being. Maybe he decided that although I am an old man, I might not be a nice old man. Anyway, fat ass got back in his truck and roared away. Took a while to calm the client.
I swear, next one of these dipshits that wants to get out of his fucking truck is going to get his head bounced off his own highly expensive bumper.
Video it would be my suggestion. If he knows he is being video’ed it may make them act nicely.
Poor widdle old man doesn’t like the big meanies who do not-nice things!
Before you criticize anyone for rude behavior, take a look at yourself. You are far and away the most obnoxious person who has ever participated on these boards.
Dashcam, seconded.
That is an exceptionally high bar to clear. Even top 20 is a tough group to join.
Why did you get out to confront the driver? You should have noted his license plate number and driven away to a spot where you could report him to the police. If things had gone south those kids would have been stuck out there in a car they couldn’t/shouldn’t drive…and you probably would have been out of a job.
Man, people will do anything to get a free flight nowadays.
Maybe look at the bright side. New drivers are going to find themselves in situations like this some day, it might as well be when they are in a relatively controlled situation. Heck, paying a guy to act the part of “asshole driver” sounds like a good idea.
With a sticker placed right below STUDENT DRIVER that says DASHCAM IN USE.
Defiantly a camera. Call the cops next time.
As long as we are handing out awards, you are the biggest cunt on the entire internet.
He wasn’t the one driving and would have had to get out anyway to switch places with the driver?
- He apparently didn’t get out to switch places.
Ego fueled by anger.
- He could have told the student to drive away.
I’m not entirely sure I’m comfortable with a frightened teenaged first time driver taking a non-standard driving path around an enraged driver who blocked the lane and exited his truck.
Defiantly? Wow that’s a heck of a typo.
Maybe Pittsburgh is just a friendly place peopled by affable, easygoing lads and ladies, but around here, getting out of your car to confront another driver is an excellent way to end up dead.
How about a non-standard driving path over an enraged driver who blocked the lane and exited his truck?
That should only be a last resort. The risk is never worth it otherwise. He still had the option of opening the door without getting out yelling he was calling police and making (non-profane) gestures showing his cell phone and commanding the enraged party to not approach the vehicle. His attitude shows prioritization of his ego over considering the risk of what he’s doing.
And if they won’t spring for the camera, the sticker is cheap.
