So I was making this recipe:
http://www.recipezaar.com/Pork-Loin-Chop-Marinade-Old-South-African-131855
- in which I only needed the lemon’s peel. I’ve finished my marinade, and I’m looking at this perfectly good, but peeled, lemon. Not enough for lemonade, so I juice it, add three spoons of sugar, a good pour of Mount Gay Rum, shake it up on ice and pour half a can of Heritage (real sugar) Dr. Pepper over the top. The ingredients were basically the only ones I had on hand that made even the slightest lick of sense, and you know what?
It’s not that bad. If Dr. Pepper bottled this, I’d buy it. In conclusion, Dr. Pepper should bottle lemon-flavored rum soda.
What drinks have you concocted in a pinch?
I am laughing out loud at the timing of this thread.
I don’t drink much, or often; as an example, I can remember having a Bloody Mary at a Lewis Black show in November, and know for a fact I haven’t had more than a sip or two of anything else in over a year.
Despite this, I often think that HAVING a drink sounds like a good idea, only to find out my taste buds or stomach or SOMEthing disagrees with me, and I abuse the alcohol by dumping it down the sink. Blech.
Ok, that’s the long set up.
Short set up is that coworkers and I were talking about booze we like. (I don’t like most, actually)
But I have a bottle of vodka at home <for bloody marys that I haven’t been able to finish>, a bottle of Baileys <which I’d drink anytime at all except I’d probably die of a sugar overdose> and some Malibu rum, which is leftover from holiday rum-ball making.
So…this evening…I wanted something sweet:
Ice into frappe machine that I got for my sweetie at Christmas.
LOTS OF BAILEYS
A solid jigger of Malibu
About the same amount of milk
FROTH UNTIL WHIPPED
Oh and top with whipped cream, just for the giggles.
VERY yum.
Vodka, OJ and Diet Rootbeer. It’s got a creamsicle sort of taste.
Something NOT to try. Accidentally purchasing citrus vodka and making a bloody mary with it!
If you’da had gin, you coulda had a Tom Collins instead. Mmmmmm, Tom Collins. Yum.
