I had no idea eggnog was so unhealthy.

Of course! :smack:

My mom wouldn’t have liked it very much if I would have added brandy or rum!

I dunno, I eat some weird mixtures. My buddies in high school said I ate like a pregnant woman. Go figure.

I don’t know about the ice cream, but I love an egg nog malt. Use about half milk/half eggnog, malt, vanilla ice cream. Good thing egg nog’s only available at the store about a month/year.

I have a recipe for chocolate egg nog. Best nog evar.

I forgot to add last night- if you’re worried about the fat content of eggnog, just add more alcohol! (But, if you’re a fan of soymilk, Silk makes nog that’s pretty good and can be mixed with regular nog to be less fattening. Or just go for it, it’s the holidays)

Sorry about the Euro-hijack, but I believe it’s considered normal by some to mix Advocaat (another eggy booze) with lemonade to make a ‘Snowball’.

Pretty sickly though…

Ah yes, nothing de-sweetens a beverage like adding some Sprite.

Oh yeah? I see your chocolate and raise you a coconut milk. ::drool::

I’ve never actually tried the alcoholic version of eggnog. All I ever tried was that stuff that comes in milk cartons from the dairy each year about this time. That was good stuff. Back when my Thai wife was my Thai girlfriend and we were students in Hawaii, I introduced her to that, and she fell in love with the stuff. That’s one thing I miss.

What’s that other drink you funksters on the other side of the pond drink, half cider, half beer? Snakebite, perhaps? That’s some tasty goodness, too!

You know it!

I think it’s hard to drink partially because it’s so sweet, and partially because it’s too thick. Sprite helps more with the latter.

Long afar and go away, a young lady whom I was dating suggested that we make a batch of eggnog per her Grandpa’s old recipe. A visit to the stupormarket and liquor store later, we began tossing stuff into Mr. Blender. Each sampling would yield a comment such as, “I think it needs more fill in the blank.” Mix and sample, sample and mix, six and mangle…

After several hours, neither of us could count our ass cheeks and arrive at the sum of two, and my kitchen looked like a bomb had been detonated in the dairy section. :stuck_out_tongue: That evening of noggy experimentation left me with a four alarm hangover, but it was fun.

This is why I use egg substitute when making my own.

I bought some a couple of weeks ago. Good stuff but I can only eat it once in a while.

I think that’s really only a concern if you’re immuno-compromised for whatever reason. The NIH line on salmonella says:

I’m not losing any sleep over it. Anyway, if you’re really concerned, you can buy pasteurized eggs, which I imagine are superior to egg-substitutes in terms of using them for cooking (or drinking).

I like egg nog in place of milk for cereal. The best ever frosted Rice Krispies and egg nog, but I haven’t eaten that since I was a kid.

Are there other kind of nogs besides egg nog? Say perhaps Bacon Nog?

BACON NOG!

Mmm, eggnog. drools I first “discovered” eggnog when I was 13. It was sometime around the holidays when someone first offered me a glass. I sniffed it warily, took a sip, and I was in love. About two years later I discovered just how bad eggnog is for you. But dang if it isn’t delicious.

I, too, was shocked to learn that a mixture of raw egg, booze, cream and sugar could be bad for you. It’s always been good to me.

Eggnog and Captain Morgan’s Spiced Rum. Mmmmmmm.

Have you tried the Starbuck’s Eggnog Lattes? Delisiosso!

Hot tea with a good dose of egg nog (sans booze). Try it.

Look at the recipe I posted above. You can divide it by four and only have enough to drown about 4 people in eggnog.
Trust me, it will be the best eggnog you have ever consumed.
