 The week of Christmas I had three interviews and all went well. So well, in fact, that I was offered the job the following week. Unfortunately, they offered me $2500 less than my minimum. Not a big deal, I could rework my budget. To help me with my numbers, the recruiter sent me the company’s benefits booklet. HOLY SHIT!! Their insurance is almost double what I pay now. There is no way I could take a pay cut and pay more in insurance; don’t think anyone could. So, I had to turn down the offer… and I HATE my current job.
Did you mention this to them before turning them down?
“I’d really like to work for you, but I’m afraid I can’t afford to take a pay cut. Would it be possible for my salary to be (their offer + $3000)?”
If they say no, you’re no worse off. But if they say yes . . . .
Well, at least you have a job already, and that counts for a lot. Still, look at it this way- every time something like this happens, it’s clearing the way for something way better to take its place. You will soon get a fantastic job offer, beyond your wildest dreams, that you never would have gotten if you had taken this job. Maybe?
Yeah, I negotiated, but they wouldn’t budge.
