After seeing news coverage of the recent Golden Globes I felt so enraged I had to rant!!! And the pit is the place!!!
So I’m angry, very angry in fact!! What on earth have these celebrities, actors, actresses, whatever you wanna call them ever done that they deserve to be celebrated and awarded all the freaking time!
there is always some awards ceremony for something, or party to celebrate somebody for doing nothing and quite frankly it’s really starting to boil my piss! I remember seeing an interview with Samantha Morton (British Actress, don’t really know who she is) and she said something along the lines of America is great it knows how to award/celebrate us actors more than Britain does. And I just thought are you for real?!?!? What has she ever done for the greater good that really deserves an award!
It makes me sick, celebrities seem to see themselves as an elite group of people who deserve to receive free VERY EXPENSIVE goody bags and awards and clothes and all that junk yet if it wasn’t for the common joe they wouldn’t be where they are!
They are on a pedestal and we’re a supposed to kiss their feet, buy their crap, and adore them at every opportunity, what the hell for?!?!?!?!?! They’ve never done anything for me, ok I may have listened to their music and watched their films but does this really warrent the admiration they get??? My GP helped relieve me of excruitiatng kidney stone pain and yet I didn’t see him splattered all over the news for doing so.
It seems to me that the world has gone mad, people worship false idols! In this day and age is Pop Idol, X Factor, crappy awards ceremonies, Beckham moving to LA that everyone is talking about.
I watched VH1 100 icons recently and who was number 1??? Bearing in mind Martin Luther King was there probably at 99 I can’t remember. David Beckham was number 1, what the hell!?!??!?!
The world has gone mad!
Sorry if this post doesn’t make much sense I’m just so annoyed at the world today!
Very little. However the awards ceremonies are generally the industry awarding itself. Most industries do this. The world of Movies/TV is all about PR though so they do it big style. Lots of people also love looking at celebs getting awards so tune in which is why they are on TV. If the rating were bad the show wouldn’t be on TV.
The value of the gifts given are now taxable. The Oscars this year will not be doing the gift bag because of this.
Your opinions are not uncommon, but I think hatred toward celebrities tends to be the result of the belief that they have it better than us. They don’t, that’s a lie stemming from the myth that money makes all your problems vanish. It doesn’t.
There’s another assumptions, too – that celebrities must absolutely feel they deserve the attention they get. For someone to want to be an actor or a singer, they must have something in them that craves attention, true… but why is that so vilified? I ask because I have a very good friend in the business, and I happen to think he’s a delightful person. Is he an attention whore? Yeah, no question. Does that fact make him occasionally come off as an arrogant prick? No doubt. But he’s also extremely intelligent, very talented, and incredibly compassionate. I’ve never seen anyone work so hard in his life for something he cared about. No matter how many photos you see might see of him in the magazines, you will never see that side of him. You just see the craving for attention and assume it’s the sum total of the person.
You don’t see the whole person in the media, you just see the surface representation, the image the media wants you to see. As a culture we’ve vilified and objectified celebrities to the point that we no longer consider them as being human or having a right to privacy or to their own political opinions. Which is ridiculous. A celebrity is not necessarily less human than you, less compassionate, less intelligent, or less sensitive. The only thing they are (most likely) more of is gregarious and outgoing.
So if you’re pissed about hearing about it so much… blame the media. Blame the public’s obsession with wealth and power. Don’t actually blame the human being. They are essentially just chasing their dreams and doing what they love to do.
