I have a kind of blind date thing in 40 minutes...

So I have a kind of blind date thing in 40 minutes from now, with someone I met online, who, Og knows why, insists on meeting me in person. Being an antisocial bastard, I hate these things like the plague. I’ve got a bad case of the runs from nervousness and constantly have to pee. Appearantly, my body is mistaking my social phobia for something I ate and is trying to flush the toxins out of the system. I’m in a foul mood and will most certainly make the worst impression since Cortez introduced himself to the Mayans.

Damn. Now it’s in 35 minutes. I guess I should hit the shower.

Wish me luck.

Good luck! You’ll be fine! Just think of it as a chance to make a new friend…

Try to establish some common ground early on by asking questions. For example, you could ask “so, do blind dates give you diarrhea as well?” Once you’ve established a good rapport through a shared interest, it should be smooth sailing.

Good luck. Enjoy the adventure.

If nothing else, at least it’s a chance to practice getting more at ease in social situations. I don’t consider myself to have a social phobia, but I am definitely very shy. The first few times I met someone off the internet it was definitely awkward and I acted like a total idiot out of nervousness…but I learned from each experience. Now that I’ve done it routinely, I find it A LOT easier to relax and make a decent impression than I used to. In fact, just last night I had a nice evening out with a new guy.
Hope it goes well for you.

Good luck to you. I was in the same situation last night, and it went very well.

Thanks for your support. I made it through it alive.

Actually, it went rather well. I think I avoided making a complete ass of myself. We had some wine, went for a loong walk, talked, ate some falafel. She was very sweet, and very pretty, too. Not really any romantic vibes going on, but I did ask if she wanted to come round to my place some day and watch a movie or two, and she did say that, yeah, that would be cool.

So, not too bad an evening. I certainly feel a lot better now.

Glad that it was fairly successful. Sounds like it went more smoothly than some of my early internet meetings did. :stuck_out_tongue:
