Jim B. (i.e., me) has two new editions to his family. Twinkle and Snowball. Twinkle is a gray-colored female kitty, with stripes. Snowball is white, with a tuft of brown hair on her head.
The lady who helps me clean my house gave them to me as a birthday present, when I made an off-hand remark that I like cats, and miss my recently-departed Jasmine.
My birthday was at the end of June. I was hoping to get some good pictures of them to share with you all (from someone else–I don’t presently own a camera). But that is seeming less likely now. So I will just describe them to you, as I did above.
Twinkle is the quiet, reserved one. Her sister Snowball is very aggressive–mostly in a friendly way though (she loves to climb up people, to their shoulders and kiss their ears). Snowball also likes biting me for some reason. She purrs as she does it. And then she kisses my fingers after she bites them. We used to have another cat, male in this case, that bit. But I have learned after growing up with cats and dogs in my home that there just is no way to discipline at cat. I’m sorry, it’ impossible. When she does it, I just ignore her and hope she outgrows it like the other cat did.
I welcome any words of advice, or even support in this matter.
Actually, I have one of those “old-fashioned” cell phones with no cameras. If I ever replace it, it will probably be with a simple one, like Jitterbug. I just don’t like all those features on one phone. Seems so unnecessary.
As I said, I will try to get pictures. But I can’t make any guarantees:).
They sound beautiful. Congratulations on your new feline overlords
My dearly departed Fred was a biter. He’d be on my lap, purring his little lungs out and would suddenly bite me, sometimes hard enough to draw blood.
Everytime it happened, I would scream OUCH!!!, push him off my lap and ignore him for a while. It was hard, because he’d look at me with sad kitty eyes and paw at my leg while meowing at me. I had to be consistant and it did take a while but it worked.
One of my cats knows lets me know that he wants to roughhouse by giving me a gentle bite. If it gets too strong, I place my whole hand over his face, holding his head for a couple of seconds. When I do this, he backs off.
I’ve learned with kittens that if you let them keep biting now they always will. With my present pair one nipped at first. I’d give him a tap on the nose and shoo him off my lap. He learned and 7 years later he doesn’t bite, just oodles of snuggly goodness.
