Okay, Lackadaisical is out.
Hi, Garfield!
I think Twylight would be a perfect name for a little black kitty…
Rose
What do you mean Lackadaisical is out? How distressing. I still rock, right?
I’m still pushing for Ivory (or Irony), but I have to admit that Twylight is also a good choice. I’m also a fan of the name Emma.
Yes, Serendipity, you still rock.
Twylight is nice. My mom is being very indecisive right now though.
They say that kitties respond best to names with hard consanants, and more than one syllable in them. Like “Pinky”, or “Cranberry”. Poor names, both, but I’m trying to give examples here.
Ignoring what I just posted, Esmerelda sonds like a good name for a green-eyed black kitty…
If its a kitten…call it Puppy. But you could spell it Puppi, or Puppie, or is that too sophisticate for a tiny unwordly kitten? If so- I highly reccomend checking out a copy of Beatrix Potter’s books. She has the quintessential kitten names!
KITTY!!
::ahem:: I vote for “Shadow” or “Shade.”
I have a cat named Noel. But she’s all white.
You found her in the backyard-how about Lucky?
Be sure and take her to the vet’s, ASAP.
My next kitten will be named Gypsy. In honor of Gypsy of MST3K-my favorite bot.
How about Pearl, though? I had a dream recently about a cat named Pearl-and not all pearls are white.
my very pretty black cat is named winken the wonderful.
of course after she was named and it was official, i thought of silhouette. silhouette is a very nice name, and nephy could call her silly, or silly girl. i’m glad y’all took her in. cats are very comforting when you don’t feel well and are in pain.
I know a black lab who is named Snowball…
There’s always, “CAT!” which is what my Cloud gets called an awful lot when he gets into trouble. He – ouch! he just grabbed my hair! – is a major pain, but more than makes up for it by being a total sweetheart.
Well, the suggestions I offered in chat just now were:
Fred - the name of a cat we once had that looked like that.
and
Gwanjeera, Huntress of Goldfish and Murine Pestilence - Fluffy for short.
Is the kitten litter box trained? Nope? Wizzer!!
Shadow. ::shakes head::
Yup, did the same thing - snagged a feral kitten when I was living in Hawaii. After much debate, I decided the only thing he answered to was “Dammit”. Hence his name
I kind of like “Cheezit” myself. My cat was named Cheezit. I have no idea where the name came from, but it fit her perfectly. I don’t have the cat anymore, but I am still kind of partial to the name.
Some years ago, I became afflicted with a cat. My daughters found it and brought it home. It had not been weened and guess who had to bottle feed it. As I did all the work, I got to name it: “Cat.”
My daughters have now have families of their own, but Cat (often followed by ‘DAMMIT!’) remains with me.
What other name is there?
Aw… Shadow’s a quality name, though. In my mind, however, I will be refering to the cat as Daisy, just as my friend Sarah calls my dog (Romeo) Bob.
So it’s Shadow, is it? Well, it really doesn’t matter what the original cat name is (except at the vet’s) since all kitties have a way of accumulating multiple nicknames.
Enid, a.k.a. The Nid, Niddy Kiddy, Enid Oklahoma, The Exploding Cat or Muffin sends her purrs and regards to Shadow, Shady, Shadster, Sh-Boom or whatever you end up really calling your kitty
You could always go the unimaginative Japanese way and name it “Neko” (Japanese for cat, y’know?).
Really, it doesn’t matter to me. It’s just that this topic was right under “the mincemeat thread” and it bothered me. Carry on.
