I have cancer

Bro, your attitude is inspiring. Stay strong.

I am so sorry to hear about your troubles. it seems like when life gets you down it can’t resist the urge to piss on you while you’re down there.

I’m an oncology nurse, so I have a pretty good idea of what you’re going thru. The most important things are a good attitude and a strong support system. It seems like you have both of them. Take it a day at a time. I know you’ll be fine.

You are in my prayers.

Urg. This sucks. And yet it’s good to see how you’re taking it. I can only hope that if I were in your position, I would do as well.

Ditto on the hospital food. Should we pack up a bottle of 1989 Krug and some white truffles to smuggle in for you?

OLDSCRATCH – I’m not sure how I missed this thread until now, but best of luck to you. I really admire you for not moping around throwing a pity party – though you certainly deserve one – but going out, getting another job, taking classes, and being pro-active with your health. Stay strong, and best of luck.

Oldscratch, you are in our thoughts.

It can be hard when you’re young to think that bad things can happen- when I was in my early 20’s, I thought I was bulletproof (sadly not the case).

One of my best friends who is in his early 30’s (wife, 2 great kids under3) found alump on his neck one day & mentioned it to his RN wife. Before you could say “smaller than a golf ball” he was in the hospital seeing an oncologist. Thyroid tumor, no big deal, we’ll just take the tumor out. They went in and were horrified to find out the real size and extent of the malignant tumor, and removed both thyroids immediately.

He is fine with thyroid medication now, but his doctor said that they wouldn’t have even checked someone his age for something like that, so it pays to be on the ball about your own body. They also did a colonoscopy based on his cancer history, and found polyps like they would expect in a 50 year old’s colon. Yikes.

You have done the right thing in acting quickly. Keep up the happy thoughts and so will we.

Sounds like good news coming up for you. glad to hear it! Keep your spirits up - we’re thinking of you!

You go, Oldscratch. Kick some melanoma ass.

{big squeeze hug for oldscratch}

{small tear}

Hang in there, oldscratch. I want you to beat this! I hate cancer with the passion, seeing that my dad has it, and anyone that beats it is my hero! huge hug

Skin cancer doesn’t like my family. Apparently it doesn’t like you. This sucks.

However, be glad you didn’t get it somewhere substantially worse:)

Praying for you, FWIW. I will get PD to put you on our prayerlist.

Sorry to hear about that, but it sounds from your most recent posts like things are already getting better. I hope they continue to do so.

My best hopes, prayers, and wishes are with you.

Oldscratch: you get better,now. I know you are not all that religous, but would you mind a small quiet prayer? Anyway, NOw is the time to get that food review thing we talked about done. Print up all your best, and send them out.
