No question he was a hypocrite for criticizing Obama and then playing golf “on the job” himself. But the President who by far played the most golf while in the White House was Woodrow Wilson.

Trump is reputed to have the lowest handicap* of any Presidential golfer, but is also claimed to be a big cheater on the course.
*Eisenhower broke 80 in his first year of playing golf (he’s also second on the list of most prolific golfing Presidents), so he might actually have been better than Trump.
**The title for most taxpayer expense racked up on golfing trips might ultimately go to Trump.
It seems to me that Trump, like Woodrow Wilson, is saving the country every time he plays golf instead of trying to be President. The country would have been much better off if both of them spent ALL their time golfing.
Too bad golf doesn’t require more exertion. The country would be even better off if the incumbent has a heart attack while golfing.
Yeah, “saving” in the Trumpian sense - screwing it up in the first place and demanding credit for the rescue when he stops.
I’ve actually always been curious about the obsession with how often any president plays golf. A round might take about 3 hours of you walk and take your time.
I can only assume it’s because it’s seen as an elitist endeavor? Democrats, Republicans, doctors, welders, dentists, politicians, firefighters, warehouse workers, teachers, customer service staff… they all play golf.
A president isn’t expected to work 24/7. Neither is anyone else. Though technically they’re always on-call, but again, firefighters. Even residents in the medical field working 72 hour shifts get time off. I say do what you want with free time.
What would you rather the president do with a few hours free time? Play Candy Crush? Post to SDMB? Stare at the Red Button?
IMO, playing golf is the least thing we should focus on. What are all (All) the politicians doing today and the next few weeks while telling us the 'Rona is going to destroy us?
I’m really feeling a disconnect from people who think D or R after a name matters. I hate being this cynical because I feel it proves I’ve lost hope. And anyone who wants to parse that and slam me please read it again. I’m not attacking anyone on any side. I just feel defeated that anything will change. Sorry for the ramble.

And possibly worse, another acquittal would lend legitimacy to Trump along the lines of “They tried to impeach him twice, and failed twice. Clearly what he’s doing isn’t that bad.”
We all know that’s untrue, but there are plenty of low information/low mental horsepower voters who might well believe that where there’s smoke, there could be fire in that case.
Better to concentrate on November… even a successful impeachment and conviction wouldn’t change anything- Pence would be President, and all the same people would die of COVID-19 that would have if Trump had remained in office. And worse, Pence would be the incumbent, and would look positively rosy in comparison to an ousted Trump. All those people out there who dislike Trump enough personally to vote Democrat in November just to get rid of him would ALL jump on the Pence bandwagon.

Nobody actually cares, except Trump castigated Obama for playing so much golf, then turned around and played more and at greater expense than any president in modern history. That is, after swearing during the campaign he’d be so busy being President, he wouldn’t have time to golf.
It’s not the golf people care about. It’s the incompetence, hypocrisy, and tremendous expense involved.

Yeah but people complained about how much golf every other president played then went and played golf. Of all the things to complain about golf seems kinda low. But if that’s your focus have at it.
I’m voting for myself as a write-in this year. Then I’m going to go play 18. If I get elected I’ll be the first to shit his pants. But after I clean up I’ll host a Doper Open. All invited, open bar, side bets encouraged.
And I’ll be the happiest one there because I realize how unimportant this is. Every 4 years it’s the same thing. Doesn’t matter who wins, we’ll all be at each other’s throats, coming up with anything to attack with, alienating each other.
I’ll offer to buy you a beer, shoot a game of cricket, and we’ll get along fine. Just don’t play shitty music on the jukebox. 
Let’s put it this way. Your kid spends two hours a night playing video games. You think it’s the same if she does that instead of doing homework or does that after doing homework?

No, Trump is the guy saying “Hey, I play video games, but when it’s time to do homework, I never play video games like those losers. And I would never spend that much money on new consoles or peripherals”.
Then turns immediately around and has marathon gaming sessions every weekend instead of the 1-2 hours he was complaining others devote to it while spending much more money at it than anybody ever - literally more money than his predecessors have.
How he spends his free time is his business. His hypocrisy in blasting Obama for the time and money Obama spent golfing and then turning around and spending more than twice the time and vastly more than twice the money is the point.
And that point I made the first time. Which was promptly ignored. Because that would be inconvenient for admitting that maybe it’s not about the actual golf for most of us. It’s about the fundamentally lazy, incompetent, hypocritical, irresponsible asshat and one example of many demonstrating his inherent unsuitability for the high office he inhabits.
Add in the fact that the extra money he spends is going directly into his own pocket. These golf trips aren’t just a way to the president to blow off steam, they are a way for him to embezzle money from the tax payers.
Would you rather have Trump playing golf or watching ‘Fox and Friends’ and tweeting about it?

Clearly, the latter, as that has not directly cost the taxpayers in excess of $140 million to date.
In addition to the hours of golf, add the hours of “Executive Time”.
