Dear God in heaven, NO! Trump’s golf trips have cost the country only $140 million and have kept him out of the White House for hundreds of hours. Can you imagine the cost to the country if he’d spent that time governing?
And after he’s done doing that and whatever else you demand he does for 168 hours every week we’ll achieve utopia? I’m really surprised you’re upset he isn’t doing more. Sounds like you would prefer he practically lived on a course in Fiji. Maybe I misread something in your theme. Apologies.
Jesus Christ. Trump is a useless piece of shit, and he’s done a bad job with the virus. That doesn’t mean he is directly to blame for all COVID deaths.
For me, the issue with Trump playing golf isn’t about him playing golf. It isn’t about denying him a proper work life balance or whether or not Trump deserves recreational opportunities.
It’s about his repeated and explicit campaign promises to NOT play golf. It’s about making a promise to 100% of your constituents then shrugging it off because half of them don’t care if you keep your word. It’s about Trump being a pathological liar. It’s about his complete and utter contempt for the very concept of truth. It’s about a self-sacrifice he promised to make -then dismissed like it was nothing. The fact that it’s a relatively trivial lie makes it worse.
I once worked for a pathogical liar. It’s what they do, they lie about everything. I’d say ”Tim, where are you stopping for lunch?” and he’d say Burger King and then I’d watch him walk right into Wendy’s.
It’s infuriating after a while, especially the stupid little stuff.
And the hypocrisy involved in him doing exactly what he criticized his predecessor for - but mostly the pathological lying.
Welcome to American politics. We welcome new members. If Biden wins you’ll read the spirit of your post from the other side in 4 years. Bush to Clinton, Clinton to Bush, Bush to Obama, Obama to Trump. Whoever “your side” is running against will always be the one who will cause the fall of the republic. No matter what side you’re on.
It’s why I’ve gone from liberal in my youth, to conservative in my 20’s and 30’s, to cynicism to outright indifference.
I make too much to benefit by voting Democrat, and too little to benefit voting Republican. Though I do tend to vote Republican simply because my taxes and fees tend to be less. But they’re social policies are very often too controlling of self choice.
Point is, don’t be so angry. Understand they don’t care about you personally. They just need you to vote for them. Try this. Email whoever you plan to vote for with a very specific question or concern. Then note how long it takes for a reply and then if it seems like a genuine response from whoever is “fighting for you”.
I did that whole cynically apathetic thing for a few years in my life. The whole “it doesn’t matter who gets elected, they’re all pretty much the same and nothing will change” attitude.
Then I witnessed the Dubya (and now the Trump) adminstration, and saw, firsthand, the tragic amount of damage idiots and narcissistic racists can do to our country. I saw billions of dollars and thousands of lives snuffed out on an unnecessary war. I saw the divide between wealthy and the poor grow ever more massive. And, most importantly, I saw the sheer hate-filled, willfully stupid 40% of our population that continues to support the worst president in the history of our country.
It’s not a fucking game. It’s people’s lives we’re talking about.
