I have the flu

Ugh! I haven’t had the flu for a couple of years (at least), and forgot how horrible it is. Blinking makes me exhausted. It started with being very sick to my stomach, and now I’m just wiped out and achy. Luckily, they are being very understanding at work, and my classes this term are all online, with the exception of my four hour accounting class tonight.

Crap. If I go, that would be bad. I’m not about to expose other people to this. If I don’t go, that would be bad. We cover a lot of material each week.

Everything hurts. At least the dog is happy, right? We’ve been taking a lot of naps together.

Will spring EVER get here? There is a winter storm warning for the midwest. Good times.

Oh, do NOT go out! That thing is virulent! The baby I was babysitting threw up just once on a Thursday, and by Friday night I had it, my neighbor (who was here for 20 minutes on Thursday) had it, one of my two kids had it and the baby’s mother, father and roommate all had it.

Baby’s mom is a hospital nurse, and she told me they’re turning stomach flu patients away because the ER is full up with them.

I hardly ever throw up, and I threw up with this one 9 times in 9 hours. It was like clockwork. And so, so exhausted and achy. On the plus side, I was down 5.4 pounds at my Weight Watchers weigh in a week later!

A little more than a week later (week + 3 days), all of us experienced a much milder 24 hour resurgence, just diarrhea and cramping, no throwing up this time.

The only thing I can offer is sympathy and ginger ale. :frowning:

You’re right. I would hate someone if they sat next to me and knew they were sick. I’ll find a way to make up the work somehow.

I had it for the first time in my life 2 weeks ago. I thought I had a bad sinus infection until I got the chills. The doc shoved a q-tip up to my brain and confirmed it as the flu.
About $100 later me and my Tamiflu went home and hybernated for 3 days. My pals would leave soup and Gatorade at the door for me to avoid my germs. My lil sis/roomate had to move out for a while and I had to disinfect the place before she returned.

I was EXHAUSTED for days but I am getting back in the gym and playing tennis again finally.

Just lay around and sleep…that is all that I can say.

My kitty loved it too!

I had it a couple of weeks ago. We are now planning to paint the bathroom. These two seemingly disparate facts are actually closely related.

My advice: Don’t try to eat until you’re really sure you’re ready.

Jello and ginger-ale are your best friends. You have my sympathies.

This makes me even madder at my co-worker who sits about six feet away from me, who has had what really sounds like this flu, and she both came in while sick and doesn’t bother to cover her mouth while coughing. I had a flu shot last fall, which I think must be protecting me; otherwise, I’d probably be barfing right now, too. And giving it to my husband, who just had abdominal surgery. People piss me right the hell off.

Um, and sympathies to all y’all, too.

Yup, I’ve been living on Jello. Today I got brave and had some rice. I don’t feel sick anymore (to my stomach), and know I should eat, but my appetite seems to have gone into hibernation. Hopefully it comes back soon, because I’m sure my lack of energy has a lot to do with not eating.

my condolences, haze. been there, done that (although not for a while now. god bless flu shots) and it is NO fun at all.

from personal experience i can say keep up with your fluid intake. they’re critical for you right now. and obey your body: sleep, sleep, sleep. second best thing for flu recovery. hang in there. you’ll feel better soon.

I wasn’t hungry for about 12 hours after I stopped puking, mildly hungry but didn’t dare eat for another 12 hours or so, and then suddenly I was RAVENOUS, and insatiable. The other people sick with me said the same thing. I wonder if you have the same bug we had, and if it’s still that consistent or if it’s mutated.

:frowning:

I just got over a mild case of the flu last week. Tired, achy, not enough spoons to deal with more than a few hours of email from home. No barfing, but definitely not enough braincells up and about to do anything.

Hope you feel better!

purple haze, I’d hug you, but, you know…
I’m sorry to hear you fell so horrid.

Maybe hearing that spring has arrived somewhere will help. My daffodils are blooming. All the flowering trees are out in a riot of color. The breeze has a hint of warmth to come.

I hope you feel better soon.

Ooh, now that’s just mean! We’re fixin’ for a snowstorm here, lady, as is purple haze!

Well, The way I look at it, if spring has reached here, you all aren’t far behind.
