I am not in dire need for my tax return or anything. I’m just posting to see if I’m alone or not.
I filed a little over 2 weeks ago with TurboTax. After 2 weeks it’s usually deposited into my account.
Usually along those two weeks I’m getting daily updates about the status of my tax return.
This year I haven’t even gotten ONE update other than they’ve accepted my tax return.
Anybody else?
I don’t recall TT ever sending daily updates. Although most years I owe them, rather than they owe me. This year I owed them.
When I e-filed back around mid March I got the usual “your return is in queue to process”, followed a couple hours later by “your return has been accepted”. IRS pulled my money out of my account on the day my return told them to, so clearly my return had gotten to the point of them understanding what to do about me paying them or them paying me.
Not sure that’s directly helpful to you, but it’s one more anecdote on the pile.
Have you checked your state or the IRS’ ‘where’s my refund’ page? That should give you some kind of update.
That’s right around the time they’re due, is that when you normally file them? I’d expect everyone in the tax industry to be fairly busy right then and maybe things move a little slower. Also, and I don’t want to turn this political, but if DOGE has been in there doing their thing, it might be running even slower than normal.
With DOGE hard at work reducing essential staffing levels, I wouldn’t expect anything before August.
Yeah, to be fair I did wait till the last minute. I usually file in March.
I didn’t this year because there was a delay in some paperwork I needed.
But yeah I’m thinking this is related to DOGE as well.
I used FreeTax USA (recommended by the federal government if you do your own taxes) and when I submitted the Feds said they approved within a couple hours and the state (Illinois in my case) approved my returns the following day (maybe 12 hours). I owed the state some money (not a lot at all) and they withdrew that money from my bank within a few hours. I got a fairly big return from the feds and that took about five days to happen. All straight into and out of my checking account.
I got notices from FreeTax USA to my phone as well as emails saying the government accepted my returns. While my taxes are not super simple they are also not super complex either so that may matter.
I would think if you do a lot of itemization of expenses and whatnot that will slow things down a lot. I don’t so I think the governments, for me, are super happy to say looks good and send me on my way toot suite. There’s some value to that I think. Faster and no one wants to be audited. Worth a few bucks to just sail through with no hassle.
I got a text update that AZ had accepted my return. Then no further notices, state or federal.
I checked my bank statement and my federal refund was deposited about 3 days after I sent the form (on April 14). (I am not getting a state refund).
This year we used an accountant because we had some weird royalty issues. We filed around the end of March, and I got my refund check a few days ago. Yes, check. The IRS had our bank information yet for some reason decided to send a check.
