This happened to me yesterday when I watched the documentary Hey, Bartender: it features several songs by Joe Jackson, and when it was over I went and listened to Look Sharp! in its entirety.
Any song off the Ramones’ first six albums pretty much makes me want to listen to the Ramones’ first six albums.
Styx Saturday on Youtube.
Don’t know what caused me to choose the video for “Blue Collar Man”, but I was trapped on memory lane for the next couple of hours.
Damn. I forget how much I liked Styx, before Dennis DeYoung’s popular success hijacked the group.
The Bulgarian women chanting sample has me hooked. There’s a link to all their videos as an album, which I just listen to. YouTube made me too lazy to load CDs.
I’m doing this now with Psychedelic Furs. Because of the poll threads about #1 singles in X year. Like this one:
I didn’t realize how many songs I knew but didn’t know it was by PF. I’ve already bought a couple of CDs.
I heard the name Leslie a few days ago which made me think of Leslie West and then an album of his called The Great Fatsby that I lost to the rampage of an old roommate’s ex. Off to YouTube and a marathon of Leslie West, Mountain and West, Bruce and Lange. And that led to another marathon of, well Cream of course.
I can do this with a long list of artists from Lonnie Mack to Flying BurritoBBrothers to the Rolling Stones to Tony Bennett to Herbie Hancock to Mose Allison to Leonard Cohen.
Sometimes I curse YouTube (usually around 3-4 AM) for the ease of this sort of behavior.
I’m binging the Moody Blues after listening to Days of Future Passed recently after not hearing the whole thing for a very long time. I’m enjoying this little binge-walk down memory lane and I’m struck by how lush and gorgeous the music is. The lyrics, though, that seemed so profound to me at age 15 have not stood up quite as well.
You look around you/things they astound you…
Astounding.
Ha, yeah, but gaffa heard about them from me. We both became fans before the band quit their day jobs and decided to go full time with their music career. And they’re doing fine. (They’re going to be playing in Europe again starting in a few days)
I thought this was going to be about the band X too, and I was going to recommend some solo Exene Cervenka and The Knitters. Oh well.
Probably me. Thank you for listening! The earliest mention I can find is from October 2005, but I reference an earlier thread of mine that I can’t find.
Glad you like them. Yay! smile.
In all honesty, I’m not a fanatic - they’re mainly friends. I love seeing them in concert, but I don’t tend to listen to their stuff day to day.
Reviving a zombie here:
Glen Campbell. The wife was watching a “Best of Music Edition” of Later…with Jools Holland and one of the guests was Glen Campbell. This must have been a few years ago. Dude tore it up. Since then I’ve been hunting down examples of his genius, like
