I heard a song by X so now I have to binge listen

For me, there are a few artists that if I hear one thing from them I have to go binge listen to them: Dolly Parton and David Bowie are the two that spring immediately to mind for me. I heard a Dolly Parton song and have been listening to her for the past while. “After the Goldrush” with Emmylou Harris and Linda Rondstadt is playing right now.

What artists (if any) cause this reaction for you?

For me it’s more about hearing a new artist and then I’m hooked… so to barf out a few… Warpaint, Tycho, Heavenly Beat, Recondite, Shigeto, Hakobune, Mogwai, Washed Out, Stereolab… that should be plenty to chew on for a while.

Aside from the obvious (Kesha), Tom Petty and Eminem are the answers. Under certain circumstances, there are others like Michael Jackson, Elton John, Stevie Wonder, and Ray Charles.

Friday, it was Warren Zevon.

I assumed this was about hearing a song by the band X and having to binge-listen to them. So I’ll pick them. Not that they necessarily affect me that way, but I’ll listen to their first four albums all the way through if given the choice.

My first choice for the actual question would probably be The Replacements and The Smiths.

Violent Femmes, Belle & Sebastian, The Dead Milkmen, The Beatles.

After reading the title of this thread, I have the urge to listen to a bunch of X.

Billie Holiday.

Big Wreck.

American X or Australian X?

Oh well, I’m going with The xx (it’s true, even).

I assumed this was about the band X, too - and a worthy choice for the OP.

I tend to buy CD’s, still - get off my lawn! So if I get a CD for a new artist, I play the heck out of it. Recently, I have been playing a ton of Tommy Guerrero, a skateboarder who has an urban, cool, almost-jazz groove to his overall sound.

I played Vampire Weekend, Phoenix and a bunch of other bands like that when they came out with new albums…

The other day I popped over to YouTube to listen to a Stone Temple Pilots song. I was just trying to kill time during a commercial break of a show I was watching. And the whole reason I had STP on my mind is because a clip of one of their songs was played on that show.

I wound up staying on YT for the next hour because somebody went and downloaded the entire STP “Core” album on there and I couldn’t stop listening!

Death Cab for Cutie.

I listen to the entirety of “Abbey Road” every day, but beyond that, I’ve been on a Glen Campbell, Alison Moyet, and Hozier kick lately.

Aye, I thought this was gonna be about listening to the band X; one of my favs. Billy Zoom taught me that guitarists look cooler on stage with a wide stance.

Fuck it, I’m gonna go binge on X. "Johnny hit and run Pauline… Johnny hit and run Pauline…"♩♫ ♪ ♬…

I must not think bad thoughts…

But seriously, the last time I can recall doing this was for Spoon, a late-90s-to-today, mildly alt-rock Austin band. I really liked the one song I’d heard of theirs (“Trouble Comes Running”), then later heard they were coming to my town…so I spent some time over a weekend hearing a sampling of their music from different albums. Came across a few tracks I liked, but nothing spectacular. They put on a pretty good show (I stayed for about half of it).

I usually don’t presume to speak for everybody, but in this case I’ll go ahead and say we’re all talking about American X.

Yes, Bing Crosby, Louis Armstrong, Art Garfunkel, Paul Simon, Simon & Garfunkel, Carly Simon, Herb Alpert, the Baja Marimba Band, Sergio Mendes, Blood Sweat & Tears, Chicago, Beatles, Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, Carole King, Carpenters…

Reverend Payton’s Big Damn Band. Someone on the board raved about it and linked to a song. I was skeptical, but I became a fan at once and had to listen to as much as I could find.

gaffa is a Rev fanatic and knows him personally…
