What does that mean. Spotted in a post where someone was complaining about another person.
Most people find a warm pillow uncomfortable, especially in summer. If you flip a pillow over, the other side is usually cooler. It would be disappointing to find boths sides of a pillow warm. So wishing this on someone is to want them to be uncomfortable.
Yup, in a warm room that can be so relaxing.
Love the cold pillow side. The Mostest!
A similar sentiment shared these days is “I hope you step on a LEGO.”
No, not equal.
Stepping on a Lego brick is infinitely worse.
That’s how I would interpret it.
The late Stuart Scott, who was a sportscaster for ESPN, used to use the term “cool as the other side of the pillow” to describe athletes who were calm under pressure.
Ugh.
The warm side is the good side. Summer, winter doesn’t matter. The worst part of going to bed is giving up body heat trying to warm the bed up to a comfortable temperature.
Huh. You’re probably in the minority in that regard about the cool side of the pillow. It absolutely is the best side! But, yes, regarding “I hope both sides of your pillow are warm,” as stated, it’s basically a sardonic malediction. It would be in the same sort of spirit as “I hope you bite into a raisin cookie thinking it’s chocolate chip” or “I hope you always hit a red light when you’re in a hurry.” Like that.
Ugh, indeed. Cool pillow, warm bed. I keep a spare pillow getting cooled from the air conditioning so I can swap them out every time I roll over.
I remember hearing a radio ad some time back where some guy with the smoothest voice (like a true jazz cat) was going on about some service and his closer: “as cool as the other side of the pillow.”
I liked that expression.
Sounds familiar
I’m with you. Everyone else is crazy.
I guess that might be where he got it. Or maybe folks have been saying it for ages…it’s still an awesome phrase!
The first time I heard it was by Gary Mccord on a CBS golf broadcast in the late 80s. I think it goes back a way.
I know Scott definitely popularized the phrase, but I vaguely remember him saying that it was an homage to a pioneer black sportscaster. Other cites have him claiming that he made it up himself so that memory might be wrong.
Yeah, LSLGuy is pretty awesome and spot on most of the time, but pooped the palliase on this one!
I was born cold and will die cold. The tropics and deserts are almost warm enough for me. @puzzlegal accused me of being a lizard person and she’s not far wrong. 'tis a curse.
