MajorMD: Your point is well taken. There is nothing you said to which I disagree.
Many of the regulars or better yet frequent posters have a lot to say but there are some that get my dander up BECAUSE they feel comfortable as a regular with friends on the message board who will join forces with the attacker usually against the newbies who are * anti-establishment* on certain issues. I have seen the union of forces in the opposite direction as well.
Its the smug attitude that a no. of the regulars have because they have been around for so long and know many other members on a real name basis that is irritating. To read a few of them boast how smart they are and how dumb others are also gets my goat.
By and large, I enjoy reading most of the members’ contributions in every category on this board.
But the Regulars often refuse to jump on one of their own when that person gets out of line. This disturbs me. And so I speak up.
Do add your thoughts; we really don’t want to drive off new people who want to join us. On the other hand, you’ve been here long enough to have witnessed some real turmoil caused by outsiders on this board recently. That doesn’t justify closing ranks to the point where new posters feel they have to run some gauntlet to be accepted, but I think we may be more open in general that what you may have observed in your early days.
I did not intend to make a mission out of “railing” against the “regs” when I began posting last month. Nor do I intend to make that my goal the future. However, Pit or no Pit, some the responses to my GLUTTONY post were down right mean-spirited, and when I bit back, as is my ambulance chaser nature, I became the catch of the day in a well orchestrated shark feeding frenzy (I see the oxymoron here.) Perhaps as others suggested, I should have put my tail between my legs, simply apologized for “my red badge of courage” and said, “Oops, sorry for stepping in front of all these bullets, I’m such a clumsy fuck.” Truth of the matter is that’s not my nature when I perceive injustice. The bulldog in me gets more rabid when provoked, not less, and I don’t suppose that’ll change anytime soon.
The above notwithstanding(I threw in this legalese for you Wally. Get that spacesuit out of the closet. :D), after reading in detail the last thread started by Opal, I became all too aware of the powerful affect posting can have on some vulnerable egos. I am not posting here TO HURT PEOPLE’S FEELINGS. As a result, I will try and temper my reaction to certain posts, even when I feel justifiably provoked.
Hopefully, Opal’s startling expression of her hurt will also serve as a wake up call for others, especially the ministers of influence around here like youself, melin, manhatten, phildennison (aka Paul) and others, to try to set a tone which is ever so slightly more tolerant and less mean-spirited. This can be done, I believe, without taking the foul language, name calling, verbal jabs and repartee, and otherwise good natured fun out of the Pit. Anyway, enough said. I think you know what I mean.
Why hasn’t **gl0worm ** been banned? The little fuck should’ve had his ISP contacted (I don’t know if that’s what happened), and Ed threatened banishment. So what have I missed? Or you could give the shitass a new status, like 2Sexy4MyComputer has/had.
