I just bought a nine-dollar milkshake at Baskin Robbins

Sometime recently, Baskin-Robbins raised the price of their large milkshake to $8.99, tax included. Apparently I haven’t been there awhile.

It’s a fuckin’ good milkshake, though. Don’t think it was worth nine dollars, but it’s fuckin’ good!

sigh Twenty years after Pulp Fiction was first released, a five dollar milkshake is no longer enough.

You should take it to Chipotle to have with your $9 burrito.

Its been twenty years?? Well there goes my morning…

Steak and shake has half off happy hour, milkshakes are only about $2

In high school, a GF of mine worked at Baskin-Robbins. In the summer, she could see me coming down the road from work - mowing and yardwork at an apartment complex - and would start making me a giant mint-chocolate chip shake. We’d go sit in the freezer, canoodle, and drink my shake, cooling off from the 100 degree heat. I could stay in longer than her…

9 bucks? That’s 2 cartons of ice cream right there.
I’m all for capitalism, and if you can get 9 bucks for a shake on the beach in July, I might understand, but assuming you’re not in Rio, that’s fucking crazy. It’s winter for Og’s sake!

That’s seriously crazy. Years ago, I used to get them free all the time from some guy who liked me and had a friend who worked there. That was awesome.

$6.25 here. And thanks a lot, now I want one.

Some years ago, my GrandDad, spotted a BR while I was driving him somewhere, and decided he wanted a milk shake-oh, and get yourself one too. He handed me a 5. I paid the rest out of my pocket for 2 med. shakes. He asked for his change.

Not Rio, but Simi Valley.

On the bright side, it was 78 degrees today, nice and sunny.

On the downside…it’s Simi Valley. (Somebody shoot me now!)

I must say, compared to the other places I get milkshakes (i.e., McDick’s or DQ), the actual process of scooping the ice cream, pouring the milk, and kajiggering the blender is far more labor intensive. I’m not pretending it’s brain surgery, but in terms of the fast food assembly line, they can probably sell 5 waffle cones in the time it takes them to make me a milkshake. Or such was my experience with local 31 flavours. YMMV.

What flavour did you get? Pistachio or PB&Chocolate were my favourites.

Umm…

The “shakes” at fast food joints are NOT called “milk shakes”.

Because they are soybeans - little or no dairy products.

I don’t know what Jack in the Box is dancing around with their “made with milk” shakes, but they still don’t call them “milk” shakes, so draw your own conclusions.

Like a Mad magazine cartoon 40 years ago - a Dry Cleaning Shop displaying a “Plant on Premises” sign - based on a potted plant in the window. They may have a carton of milk they place beside the shake machine - the shakes is “made” by cooling down a liquid - and there is milk right there - with the shake as it’s being “made”

What the fuck are you going on about?

Yea no. I’m lactose intolerant. I guarantee you there are milk in those shakes as well as out Fast food restaurants.

also soy ice cream tastes like shit.

Just plain vanilla. (They didn’t have French.)

At that price I hope they added gold and cocaine sprinkles.

Nope, plain old Martin & Lewis w/o a shot of bourbon or anything.

Yes, I know Pulp Fiction has already been mentioned, but it lacked anything close to the full reference.

$9 is insane. $9 here will get you one of those high-end booze milkshakes (fancy ice cream and liquor) milkshakes at one of the few new ‘adult’ burger type restaurants that are popping up around town. I still haven’t gotten one of those yet…damnit.

 1440 calories, 76 grams of fat. I.e., three quarter-pounders with cheese.

Snopes debunk link for usedtobe: http://www.snopes.com/horrors/food/mcdshake.asp - it’s specific to McDonalds, but I suspect the same applies to many fast-food places; their shakes contain milk products, but most people would interpret a ‘milkshake’ to be something that is hand-mixed with real ice cream, which McD’s shakes are not.

Big Kahuna Burger?
