I just got a CD Burner...

hey everyone, first of all I would like to say that this is my first thread. I have had an account for… I wanna say about a week now, and I’ve been reading around. But this is my first thread, and I really wanted to get some people outside of just my friends opinions on what songs I should get on a CD… I just got a new computer, and a CD burner on it. And I’m really anxious to burn a CD I just don’t know what to put on it! I like Rock, Hard Rock, Metal (but rock is better) and alternative… well, lets just say I like all music, and I just wanted to get some opinions on what songs to put on this CD, I appriciate everyones help who will post and give Ideas!! thanks!!

I am in awe of your good taste.

try a theme CD

Songs from a whole slew of CDs that all have a topic or, better yet, a word in common.

Try putting your favorite songs from all your CDs on one disk. Believe me, the narrowing-down process is painful.

Now, for the ultimate challenge: try making a mix disk for your secret crush, a disk that tells that person everything you want them to know about you.

Just, for the love of all that’s just, don’t spend all your time making dupes of CDs in your collection.

Can you burn off of tape or LP? I don’t know what your vinyl collection is like, but I have a lot of records that are too obscure to be released onto CD, so that would be my first order of business if and when I finally get a burner.

Harvey: Yeah, you can record from vinyl or tape. Just plug your turntable/casette player into the microphone jack on your soundcard.

Don’t make dupes of the CDs in YOUR collection; explore your friends’ collections !

One tip which you may or may not need - get a ‘ripper’ program. I use audiograbber[sup]tm[/sup], but there are many others out there, freely downloadable. Read the info that comes with it, as some need you to separately download the .dll file, an encoder, that does the bulk of the work. ‘Blade’ and ‘Lame’ are two of the common ones.

This allows you to copy songs into an MP3 format onto your hard drive from any CD, called ‘ripping’.

The benefits of this are many: once you’ve got the song as an MP3 file, you can listen to it any time you want through your Winamp or whatever other MP3 player you use on your computer. It also cuts down the time it takes to burn the song onto disc. It doesn’t have to read the song from a CD first, and if you only have one cd-rom drive you won’t have to swap discs.

I’m also impressed with Miller’s mix…

Just checking in to say that I got one of these things a few weeks ago. I have not only been able to share all of my favorite music with friend and cow-orkers, but it has also helped me to do some major good deeds (Photo CD’s for a legal case). These things absolutely rock! Get 24X write speed or you will regret it. Next up, the DVD burner!
