I just got my PhD!

Congratulations, Giraffe. It’s always great when people succeed at their goal, no matter how big or small.

A reward for a lot of hard work. Way to go.

Jim

Well Done, I am indeed impressed. I am hopefully on my way there myself. I just finished applying to masters programs for physics. It’s a long process for me because I am missing about a years worth of prerequisits, luckily the school I’m applying to will let me make them up without having to start all over again…

anywho, enough about me, Congratulations and the best of luck to you.

Hooray for Dr. Giraffe!

A PhD in a field I’d be hard-pressed to even define. Er… it has to do with science, right?

You are so awesome. Take all that hard work and celebrate. Go somewhere with white sand and palm trees and attractive people with not too much clothing.

You have my respect and admiration. I’ve long considered a degree in physics and a carrer doing physics research, but I think that, realistically, I’m far too stupid to actually go through with it. Congratulations!
BTW, where will you be working? Lawrence Livermore Lab? Berkeley? SoCal?

Congratulations!

::hands over a bottle of No-Doz::

Psst, it’s for the people who, at parties, ask you “What do you do for a living?”

D&R!

Congrats!!!

Good for you, Giraffe.

Congratulations, Dr. Giraffe! The world needs more Ph.D.s in Physics.

So, what’s the title of your ouevre? We might want to order it from the folks on Zeeb Road!

Now that you’re a doctor, maybe you can help me. I’ve got this pain in my back and I was wondering if it might have been caused by a rogue black hole.

So, when can we expect you to come up with the elusive theory of quantum gravity?

Seriously, many, many Kongrats!!!

I’m starting a F1 suppressor screen this week, which will hopefully yield mutants, which will hopefully yield a few first author papers, which will hopefully yield a PhD.

Happy PhD. Congratulations on your successful defense.
[/envy]

Only 3 years or so until I can say the same.

That’s one serious accomplishment. You have every right to be proud of yourself!

*[snivling, insecure, hurt voice]

So what! Pat yourself on the back why don’t ya. Bloat your ego, why don’t ya. That is sad…and pathetic, urg

[/SIHV]

Just kidding, just kidding.

Thats great Giraffe! I don’t know from my own experiences, but it seems like that much schooling is so much of an accomplishment. In Physics no less. Why if I had your brains, I would…uh, do the same, I guess. I’ll fax over a beer for ya, Heinekein?

[sub]Im sooooo jealous, I want to be smart and educated too.
[/sub]

*the above is a joke, I won’t mention the source, but I hope a few people pick up it’s origins.

WOOHOO GIRAFFE!

Yay!

Raaah!

Woohoo!

Celebrate!

Party!

Tapdance!

(now will you come help me finish my thesis?)

Elly

Congratulations! According to a friend of mine having a PhD really comes in handy when making reservations.

“Yes, I would like to make a reservation for Dr. Giraffe.”

way to go Giraffe
much impressed by your prowess
have a drink on me!

(blush)

Awwww! So many nice responses! You guys are the best! (sniff)

After I posted, I immediately left my office in search of celebration. The next time I had a chance to check the thread (Friday?) the board was down. I honestly didn’t expect so many kind words and wishes. Thank you all so much! Even though most of you did all you could to keep me from finishing, by providing a constant entertaining distraction, I couldn’t have done it without y’all.

[sub]Well, I COULD have, but I’d have been grumpier[/sub]

::does a little happy dance::

LNO, the research you listed on Andreev Interferometry is actually the work of my best friend here. Pretty amazing coincidence, as:

  1. It’s a pretty huge department
  2. No one ever actually reads his papers. You may be the first.

Read, yes. Understand, no.

Whoooo HOOOOOO!

McDonald’s always needs Theoretical Partical Board Scientists.

Congratulations!! Great news
