Does this make me officially a geek?
It was really fun
The great thing about WoW is that it has a place for the casual gamer (like me) with the rest system. I like it because I don’t feel pressured to spend outrageous amounts to time at it and still get a lot out of it, something I didn’t think was possible with most MMORPG’s.
Heh, I still spend outrageous amounts of time playing it. At least I’m doing something (grinding my way to lvl 31 - which sucks, btw) unlike our dear DeadlyAccurate who spent several hours last night braving the undead Horde just to collect a bunch of herbs.
That’s one reason Mr. Armadillo likes it so much–he says that Everquest pretty much sucks up your life, but that you can accomplish things in WoW in relatively small periods of time. This means he can play for an hour or two and still level and such. I played last night for an hour and a half and made it to level 3, which I realize probably isn’t saying much, but I get easily frustrated with games.
I agree=) mrAru plays for a couple hours in the morning before he goes to work, and again maybe an hour or so when he gets home. Other than household chores and job hunting I spend much of the day puttering around in game, and we are both 32 [he is focusing on a single character, a dwarf hunter, and I have a full slate, but my main is an HE druid, with siblings of an 11 HE rogue, a 20 dwarf pally, a 21 gnome warlock, a 20 dwarf hunter and an undead rogue for getting nifty things in the horde auction house to ‘sell’ to myself in gadgetzan auction house=)] Probably if I only had one character I would be upper 40s or low 50s by now, but I prefer to have fun and if I get frustrated on a particular quest, I just switch to a different character for a bit=)
Yeah, but I collected 34 blindweeds, 15 goldthorns, 10 khadgar’s whiskers, and 10 liferoots. So there.
And then had to turn around and spend 10g on a new bank slot and 3g 30s on a 14-slot bag because I had no room to store everything. :smack:
(But I would still give my left ear for a decent quantity of sungrass.)
I’m not really a geek. I mean, I didn’t wait on the 2.5 hour remaining cooldown to make another truesilver bar (I’ll wait until I finish work to do that.)
You must be be rolling in cash. I only have 14g to my name.
As an aside - ever notice how it’s infinitely more fun doing fake work to make fake money?
My husband has roped me into playing this game. I have an (almost) lvl 27 pally. I have a couple of other low level characters, but I like playing the pally the best. We’ve joined a guild. The hubby is 41 and I’m 40. Nothing is getting done around the house because we sit down to play for “only” an hour and the next thing you know, six hours have gone by. :o You can spend hours at this game and not even realize how much time has gone by.
I’m patiently (Really! Stop laughing!) awaiting the shipment of my copy of the game from Amazon. I find it somewhat ridiculous that the game is effectively sold out at the moment, but it’s probably for the best. I got a bunch of other games for Xmas that I’m still playing.
It’ll be cool once I get it, though. WoW will be my first MMORPG.
Stop playing now while you still can. Most of my friends started playing this, now I have no more friends.
I’ve found that the Hinterlands (just north of Tarren Mill) is the best place to collect Sungrass at relatively low levels for the stuff (late thirties/early forties); you can also get it in Feralas, but that’s significantly harder.
I guess you can repay me by describing your left ear to me.
Daniel
The Blizzard store is selling it again (or they were yesterday) I ordered my copy.
Thanks! I’ve collected 7 so far.
Nothing special about my ear. Long, pointy, and elven. But it’s yours if you want it. I’ll email it to you and even pay the postage.
You stopped playing, so that’s points against.
You stopped playing to go onto an internet message board and tell people you just did it. That’s a lot of points for.
So yeah, until we get the official ruling, I think it’s pretty much safe to say you’re a geek.
Welcome to the club!
mrAru and I are definitely geeks, we have emailed each other in the game even though in general I am always in the room with him when he plays…and I have emailed him [in real life] when he was in the other room on his computer checking his emaiil, I IR ported a text message from my PDA to his while sitting in the same room, and I have called him on his cell from the bedroom when he is in the living room=\
I think I may win the prize for pure techno geekiness - you decide. My new PC is still minus a CPU because the one I want is still out of stock so my husband and I take turns playing WoW. The current PC is upstairs in a spare bedroom. When one of us is playing and the other is downstairs and wants to talk, we use GPS walkie talkies to communicate. :o
TeenSthrnAccent hooked us up with this game over this past weekend. I am having a real good time with it and I’m old enough to admit to have had more than one 36th birthday.
I’m definately in the casual gamer catagory as I only have an hour or so a few days a week and I don’t really have “friends” to hook up with in the game for harder quests. I also have to share computer time with TSA and he plays it alot with his friends. He was out playing basketball last night so I got to play all evening. Woo. So far his friends have been sweet about sending whispers “MrsA are you doing ok? do you need help? can I make you a dagger?” But I can tell that when they include me I slow them down. I can’t even keep up when we are running down a road! I feel like I have to relearn how to walk each time I log in. This of course amuses my teenager as I bang into walls and get stuck between the chair I was sitting in or whatever.
The one I play mainly is a human rogue. This character gets a little help from my sons friends, but I am so far behind them that it’s unlikely I’ll continue to try to group with them. I just can’t keep up. She’s doing well so far, but one evening I was getting a turn at the computer and had to start a new character on a different area (there’s a better name for it but I can’t think of it at the moment) because the other place was having a problem and I couldn’t get in to play. She’s a gnome mage. For some odd reason I like the character better, but not the mage part. She gets killed really easy and doesn’t do well on the quests where you must battle beasts that are a level higher than she is. (She’s a 4 or 5 right now.)
The rogue is herbalist and alchemy although I’ve only picked silverleaf once. So I’m just getting started.
The mage doesn’t have any trade yet.
What is the best character and trades for a casual player?
My geeky mom bit: When my kid sends me something, I send him back an apple with a note that says, “Be careful. Don’t forget to eat right. Love, Mom”
Probably one of the stronger melee classes (like warrior or paladin) would be better for someone less familiar with the game, but hunter is good if you like ranged combat, because of your pet. What server(s) are you on? (I think server is the term you’re looking for when you mentioned starting a new character in a different area).
Checking the General boards, lots of people say Alchemy/Herbalism. But there’s so much varied opinion, I don’t think that this is an answerable question. I do tailoring/skinning, but all the skins I receive gets kicked back to my borhter for his leatherworking. Even with just Tailoring, I seem to fund my skill and make a little extra on the side. I had enough for my mount at 38.
In terms of character/class for the casual, probably something that solos very well. Opinions on that vary as well, but a popular class that comes up alot is Rogues with max First Aid.
Y’all did know that First Aid, Cooking, and Fishing are all secondary skills, right? I had absolutely no idea. I’d chosen Engineering & Mining for my dwarf hunter and kept wishing that I could have more skill slots (I really wanted to be able to cook stuff).
Finally somebody pointed out to me that they’re secondary, so now my character knows Engineering, Mining (very useful together), Cooking, First Aid, and Fishing. It’s a blast; there’s always something to find or something useful to do with what I find.
