…and it was even worse than I remember. I struggle to describe it in a way that doesn’t denigrate feces. The writers must have been deliberately trying to get it cancelled. It sucked, the educational mandate didn’t help either (Jamie’s description of WWII  ). Speaking of Jamie, if the Galacticans had such denser gravity that Earth why the hell didn’t she spend her time on the Galactica in a wheelchair :dubious: ? I didn’t realize there were 2 Dr Zees either. Or how frakking weak Adama was on this show. How much fanfiction is there involving Z and the scounts dying horribley? The Return of Starbuck would’ve made an OK episode of the series. I didn’t remember Angela’s speech at the end judging Starbuck worth and vanishing. I thought Starbuck put her onboard with Z and she vanished before it reached Galactica. Did they change it for syndication? Oh and how could the Fleet have been in space for 30 years and arrive at Earth in 1980 when the last episode of the series had them intercepting footage of the Moon Landing from 1969? I cringe at the thought of some SciFi executive deciding to make Galactica 2010.
…and my only thought was “Oh God, why?”
What the hell were you thinking???
Yeah, it sucked. We knew it then and we know it now. Where’s the surprise?
But it LOOKED GREAT! Just turn off either your sound or your brain.
Mine was: “And have your eyes stopped bleeding yet?”
Where did you find this? I’m assuming it was a fan made attempt or something, because to my recollection no such program ever existed on Broadcast or Cable TV.
I’ve never seen it, personally. (Heck, I just barely started watching the new Battlestar Galactica on the SciFi Channel. I haven’t even seen the 1978 version.) But word on the street is, it’s pretty bad.
I barely remember it. I do recall they had motorcycles (or hoverbikes?) that were loosely based on the Vipers.
I remember one scene pretty well, oddly enough. A woman in a store has two of the Galactica crew with her. For some reason the local cops think the Galactica guys are criminals of some kind. A cop calls the woman and realizes something may be amiss. He says, “If those crooks are there with you right now, say, ‘Hi, Bob!’” And she, with relief, says, “Hi, Bob!”
Don’t know why that stuck in my mind.
Two things stick out in my mind (and I watched all of the original run, short as it was):
- Hearing the smog over LA (where else?) being called a “potential air defense system”.
- A scene where Apollo (or maybe Starbuck) and some girl go into a bank to exchange gold for regular currency. The teller asks “Are these from old coins?” and then opines that if the coins were in any sort of recognizable condition, they could be more valuable than the gold itself was.
And, now that you mention it, I vaguely remember the motorcycles as well. Weren’t they red and white?
- Place rusty spoon firmly in your right hand.
- Gouge out any of your five senses that have seen this show.
- Place Firefly DVD’s in player.
- Watch aforementioned DVDs – IN ORDER.
- Consider yourself shiny, dong ma?
Because everybody drank a shot?
I don’t get it… but no.
Nemo I got it and laughed.
Elendil,
it’s a drinking game from the 80’s
And to think that in junior high all I wanted was a colonial viper pilot’s jacket.
Come to think of it, it’d still be cool.
chorpler, I think you were just whooshed.
I’ll let you in on a little secret. Despite how much I liked it when it first came out, the original BSG sucked too. A wild west shootout with a Cylon? The mechanical dog? Yech.

…it’s a drinking game from the 80’s
Ah, yes. I had heard of that, but didn’t remember it out of context. Thanks.
chorpler, I think you were just whooshed.
Looking back, it looks quite probable that you’re right, and simster was making a joke of the “Godfather III? What are you talking about? They came out with Godfather and Godfather II AND THAT’S ALL!” type.
But quite frankly I had never heard of Galactica 1980 myself, despite being aware of the 1978 series and the new re-imagined series, so I didn’t realize it.
Heh heh … thanks for letting me know, my dear chap.
TV’s answer to Star Wars. It was really, really, REALLY bad. I hope you didn’t watch more than a 2 or 3 episodes!
The original Galactica was TV’s answer to Star Wars. The 1980 Galactica was the scratch for an itch I don’t think anyone had.
Anyone remember the Logan’s Run TV show? That was another answer to a demand I don’t think anyone had.
