I know postcounts are not important. I know they don’t mean anything. But I’d like consistency!!! I had almost 1500. Then I went down to about 1430. I had nearly 1600, then I dropped to about 1540. I had nearly 1700, then I dropped to about 1650. I had 1800, and I dropped to 17-something. My posts are disappearing, and in HUGE numbers. I know they are nothing major, but I’d like to know the REAL number. Handy had over 7000 at one point, but he’s barely at 6000 now. Everyone’s counts are going down.
It seems to me that a year from the day you post, you lose all posts from that day. Are they being moved? Are they being dumped? Is THIS why the board is down at 3:30? To delete the year olds? Is anyone filtering these oldies for the good ones? Where can we find these goodie-archives? Will it be linked?
Is there any way to dump the old posts while preserving the post count? I should have had my 2200 post party by now, if my tabs are correct. Not that I do post parties, but hell.
First off, you have to understand that post counts are really only a vague guess at best. When we were on UBB that was really true, due to system crashes and archiving.
We also remove old redundant posts when we have time; how many old testing threads are worth archiving, for instance? We also remove threads in the normal course of housekeeping, for example, useless posts by trollers are sometimes deleted when we throw them off the system. If they orinated a thread, all posts following the original thread vanish as well.
I would imagine what’s happening is every time the system is backed up (which the techs do regularly), the totals change some as well.
Besides, it ain’t the quantity, it’s the quality. And that’s all I’m going to say about that.
I’m not too worried, because I’m too mean to pay for a 1000th post party.
(what do you mean, they’re free?! )
But I think this is relevant: does an updated signature get transferred to your old posts? (because sometimes my old signature was relevant to the thread I posted it into).
