My post count keeps going down!

Just the other day, I saw that the SDMB maintenance team had done some work on the board. Some post counts had gone down as a result (mine dropped under 1000 again, so I got to pass the threshold twice). I had no problem with that… I mean, you guys do what you’ve gotta do, right?

But I just noticed something. Ten minutes ago or so, I could have sworn that my post count was at 1016 or so. A few minutes later, it was at 1005. I made certain of the number, because I checked other threads, just to make sure it wasn’t just a slight glitch. And, just now, I saw that my post count was down to 1002 (so this should be my 1003 post).

Is there still some routine maintenance going on? If so… ::whew!:: Go nuts, it’s your board, after all. But I just wanted to make sure there’s not some bigger problem… like ::gasp:: a software glitch that’s sucking my post count down to oblivion!

Hey Spoofe, you sure you got this thing in Drive and not Reverse?

Just checking mine because I’m too lazy to go to a thread I already posted to!

Yeah, I noticed this too. First I went from 496 to 487 or so–ok, no prob. Then tonight I see I’ve gone from 499 to 490.

Jeez, if you guys don’t wantme to hit 500, just say so.

I happened to notice that I went from about 1895 to 1798. Not exactly a huge event in the grand scheme of things, but I do wonder which of my immortal words have now become slightly less than immortal.
But, if it keeps the board running smoothly, I won’t be complaining.

I’ll forward this to Jerry, see if he can shed some light on the mystery.

I’m not aware of anything we are doing while the boards are down for maintenance (we are just doing backups) that would be affecting post counts. If the Admins/Mods are deleting threads or posts that might have an effect on post counts. I can’t say for sure if they are.

Jerry

I’ve deleted a few old (VERY old) threads in the Pit, but they shouldn’t be affecting that many people.

It’s daytime, so pay no attention to anything I say.

Did you see “Frank and Earnest” yesterday?
Good news about your insomnia!..It turns out you’re nocturnal.

Mine went down about 50 some posts too. I’m fairly new so i wouldn’t think it would be from deleting old threads. I wonder if any newbies went back down to zero.

This is like that Steven King book. Thinner I think.

There’s a thread here on the Magna Carta which started at 1215 and keeps creeping up. It definitely hasn’t lost any counts, because I’ve been coming back to it since 8/7.
Just checking

Yeah, Poirot, that’s a normal thread: When a person posts, the post count number below their name changes for all threads that they ever posted to. If you actually searched up my first post way back in January, it’d say that I have a thousand two hundred and something, or whatever I’m at now. What folks are wondering about here, is that numbers seem to be decreasing, which shouldn’t happen at all, nomally, since folks don’t unpost, and shouldn’t even be happening abnormally right now, according to jdavis (our local tech god, voodoo master and miracle worker).

All I have to say is, I sure am glad I pay very little attention to my own post count. Do you know how mad I’d be if I found out I’ve already been to 700 and back??

Whatever happened to you guys deleting posts from pre-last July? I’m sure that the old, old regs post counts dropped a bundle, then, but we weren’t tracking, so no one knew.

Are posts automatically removed after say, a year, possibly?

::phew:: So I’m not going to decrease in age until I’m a sperm again… ain’t THAT a relief…

A million thanks, guys.

Oops… that should say “phew” up there, not “smiley-hew”.

Tshirts: Nope, the newspaper I subscribe to doesn’t carry that strip. I sometimes pick up a paper that does, but not often.

Homer/Tim: Nope, some of the old threads are the best ones. We’re still trying to figure out the best way to archive the really good ones. I’m just deleting threads that are not relevant and/or funny.

I stayed on 74 for about 4-5 posts
blatant post count upping

mojo57, did you post, look at it, then post again, or did you look at five posts at once, without posting again in between? If it was the latter, then that’s normal. Look at my previous post in this thread, and it’ll have the same number as this one, as I (tried to) explain to Poirot.
