The pizza, not myself. I’ve found out recently that whenever I eat a piece of pizza, I strip it of all it’s toppings beforehand. I simply cannot stand pizza with a lot of cheese, pepperoni, or sausage on it. Especially cheese. Sorry, I know I am a terrible and un-American person for hating cheese on pizza, but I do.
However, when it’s from a local pizza joint and has small amounts of onions, green peppers, and bacon, I just can’t pass it up. Thick crust, all the way. Not greasy, and lots of sauce.
Makes me wonder why I don’t just get breadsticks with sauce, or bruschetta more often.
Am I alone in this?
I do that, sometimes… thought I was insane… but then, wait. I AM insane… never mind…
I do occassionally eat the toppings then the crust, especially if it’s Poppa John’s pizza with the butter and garlic dip to dip the crust in… You gotta admire a pizza joint that says “HEY! there is not enough grease on this pie… here’s ya some butter to put on it!”… just my opinion.
You know, when I read this thread title, I’d prepared a perfect comeback of “gee, when I read this thread title, for a minute I thought you meant the pizza was naked!”. Only to find that was exactly what you meant. You stole my thunder, you bastard!
As for your question… I have been known to remove the topping, eat it, then eat the base… but I don’t think I could bring myself to totally discard the topping!
I used to like my pizza with alot of cheese and toppings but now in my old age(28) I prefer thick fresh crust with alot of sauce and very little cheese and toppings everyone thinks im crazy. They order thin crust extra topping pizzas. I tell them they should order just toppings mixed in melted cheese in a bowl and eat it with a fork.
When I make pizza, I always have thinly sliced red potatoes, red onion and fresh rosemary, drizzled with olive oil (after brushing the crust with oil before you start), and that’s it.
It’s not really naked, but with no cheese, no tomato sauce, everyone thinks it might as well be. But I don’t care what they think; it’s good!
I do it too but usually because I like to pick and eat some of the toppings first and the cheese just sticks to em in one big cheese scab that winds up pulling everything else off too.
I always considered the crust and sauce as kind of necessary evils. If there was a decent way to get well melted cheese to my mouth without the intermediaries, I’d be in heaven.
The person who invented mozzarella sticks (the closest I’ve ever seen to that idea) was a genius and deserves some kind of prize for that.
You are not alone.Being lactose intolerant,I cannot have cheese(which I dearly love but gives me gas in small quantaties and makes me very ill in large quantaties) on ANYTHING. So I always order my pizzas with the usual toppings sans cheese, which makes the piemakers think I am crazy.I also strip my pizza bare of toppings before consuming the crust.
It’s all about the crust. I even go 'round and eat the crusts which my kids leave on my plate.
I now have a wonderful recipie for “pizza bread” which is 80% crust and 20% “pizza filling”. Yummmy Yummy ! Especially when dipped in flavored olive oil.
