"I love you." "What?" "I love you." "WHAT?" "I LOVE YOU!" "I KNOW!" (Han & Leia are back)

Fischer has had problems with drug abuse and depression since she was in the original films, and it rather shows (most notably in her vacillating weight). Plus its the movies, people tend to have higher expectations for peoples appearances.

That said, I vaguely recall seeing Fischer in something a year or so ago, and she seemed to look better then she did earlier in the decade, and wikipedia seems to indicate she’s been off the drugs since 2005.

Certainly they’ve both aged better then poor Mark Hamil

I really wish that none of them were going to be in it. I was looking forward to a fresh take on the franchise. I don’t need to see a 70-year-old Han Solo.

Technically, all Carrie Fisher confirmed is that she can confirm information.

No c. Fisher.

When was that IMDB photo taken? She looks pretty good to me.

According to the credit on that photo, 2007.

This appears to be a fairly recent (if more candid) photo of her.

You were hoping for something called “Episode VII” to be a reboot?

Well, that makes me feel a little better. Thanks.

Well, damn.

Am I correct in assuming they’re going to use the already-written books for the movies? 'cause I was never a big Star Wars BOOKS fan, but even I know enough about the storyline to know that it seemed pretty cool, worth seeing in film, and a lot of other people are huge fanst of…that one guy, who wrote those books about the Solo kids and Mara Jade and all that.

According to this news report, Carrie Fisher was “only joking” about returning.

No, you are not correct. In fact it’s possible that all the post Return of the Jedi “canon” that was established in the books and comics, which were reasonably consistent and carefully overseen, and sometimes suggested by George Lucas himself, will be completely ignored. Nothing has been given away on what the story is about, when it takes place*, or who it involves. There are a lot of assumptions being made from casual comments by various insiders that have not even been slightly confirmed in any way, including the casting of the original actors. Apart from the people inside Disney directly affected by the creation of these films, nobody has a clue and all suggestions of story, cast, and details of shooting should be taken with a bucketload of salt.

Here, for example, is the first official confirmation of anything about the Star Wars sequels that has been released this year, and that is that other stand-alone movies outside the planned trilogy will also be made. It was heavily speculated on, and unofficial comments had been made a couple of times, but this confirms it.

*There is a period of time where none of the Expanded Universe has tread yet, which is the era of when Han Leia and Luke are the ages the actors are now, in their 50s. That may mean the established canon will not be tread on. But then it’s equally likely it will be trashed.

Which for me, raises one very important question: what the fuck is Lucas doing near this project? I thought we were promised that he was going to be staying well away from the whole thing. Heck, even he kinda sounded like he didn’t want to do it, because we hurt his feelings.

Anyway, story is here. Aside from annoyance that George is poking his big ol’ fro in again, I’m neutral on this. One the one hand, having the new flicks be about Han and Leia’s kids is an obvious direction to take these movies, and if you’re going to do that, having Luke, Han and Leia in the movie is a no-brainer. On the other hand, having the new flicks be about Han and Leia’s kids is an obvious direction to take these movies.

(Also, please, if it’s going to be the kids, make them grownups. The kids in the EU books were sufficiently annoying to make little Ani seem an adorable scamp.)

Is the new film going to be CGI?

Ah cool, thanks for the update. It will be interesting, and I’m looking forward to it.

I just saw the announcement that there will be a new Star Wars movie-with Carrie Fisher.
Is this true? She isn’t very youthful looking…anybody know what the story will be like? (Star Wars nursing home?)
Anyway, is the new film targeted at adults who saw the original?

You’re a little late to the party. George Lucas sold the franchise to Disney, so most fans are afraid it’ll be Jar-Jar, Jar-Jar and more Jar-Jar! As for Fisher, Lucas recently let slip in a magazine interview that negotiations were almost complete with not only her, but Hamill & Ford as well. I can only imagine they’d be cameos though…

Merged three threads about this news.

He was kept on as a creative consultant: the one thing that gives me hope that they are trying to stay in canon, at least, for now.

Also, I’m not entirely sure a thread where Fisher was joking should have been merged with a thread where Lucas was not.

And here I thought there was more to him than money.

It does?
